The problem isn't even giving him the buyout....

It's the rational in the first place. How is that even logical?

"You should secure my payment because I learned good at USC."

Has anyone ever negotiated a salary based on "I learned some lessons,"?

To play devils advocate it’s reasonable for O to be worried about the buy out. He knew at the first stumble people would be calling for his job. The buyout gives him job security.

Smart on O’s part to be worried about a buy out dumb on Alleva’s part to let him have it.

I think what he meant was that Orgeron learned to negotiate a buyout from his experiences at USC. I guess USC did not give him a 12 mill buyout?

Because Joe had to make a big splash and hurry up and announce a coach before Texas could.

Boy, I guess he really showed that Tom Herman guy, huh?

This is it right here. LSU had leverage. Alleva did not.

Orgeron and his agent knew that Alleva was trying to rush to a deal to beat Texas to the punch.

Considering that USC didn’t even hire him as their head coach, I’m not sure what lessons he could have learned there.

Detillier stated Orgeron did not care what his salary was but he wanted a significant buyout due to lessons he learned at USC. Detillier also implied that Orgeron worked over Alleva in the contract negotiations.

Of course he did. He knows he sucks and would be on the hot seat.

I'm convinced he's trying to get fired because it's easier that actually being a good coach. .

Remember when Alleva wouldn't negotiate with Fischer or Herman because they wanted to hire someone who wanted to be here and not someone who wanted to make a lot of money and negotiate?

If Alleva was as willing to give the first two what they wanted as he was willing to give O with zero fricking leverage then maybe we would have a top flight coach right now.

Good lord fire both of these arse clowns

The more I think of this buyout issue, the more angry I become.

I swear, it seems unbelievable.

I pride myself on being civil, but something tells me if I ever met Alleva I'd call him a moron to his face.

Imagine the conversation

"Hey yah baw were not rebuilding were gonna win championships! Just gonna fix some mistakes Miles was making!!"

"Okay let's talk numbers. I'll give you 3.5 mill and a normal buyout, let's say 4 million."

"Hold up now yaw yaw. I need some insurance like Miles got. In case you unprecedently fire me in the first year. Dats worth 12 million dollars baw"

"But you just said we aren't rebuilding, and you said you love this university and would never leave, why would you need insurance of us firing you given the expectations you put into the binder"

"I'm glad you brought up the binder baw. Turn to page 14 and it clearly states that in case something does go wrong next year, it ain't my fault because the players suck because it's Miles fault. It's foolproof"

"Holy shite I didn't think about that O. I'll give you 12 million! You're a genius!"

*coach O mumbles inaudibly under his breath*

"Dat was easier than I thought."

Or maybe he wanted to make sure he got a fair chance to do the job?
