Johnny Jones' reputation as a coach/leader was already pretty bad after this season.

But deciding not to play in the NIT pushes it over the edge.

It's like acting like a big baby who lost the game and says "I'm taking my ball and going home!"

This is, in my mind, the ultimate WUSS-OUT and I would, for this act alone, fire Jones on the spot.

Yes, your season was disappointing. Yes, you took a beating in the last game and were embarrassed on national TV. But when you get knocked down, you get back up, brush off, and keep going. This is a basketball team - they should play basketball!!!!!

Opting out is a pissant maneuver and shows an utter lack of GONADS! It is demonstrative of the lack of intestinal fortitude that Jones and his team have shown all year. It disgusts me and I am no longer even slightly a Johnny Jones supporter.

I agree mostly. The NIT is still a historic tournament that you should accept. Not the CBI or any other BS tournaments.

That said, this team is a mess and it won't help a yone to fall apart more and get trounced by a St. Mary's.

ETA: I don't think Johnny is scared, but rather, knows he has a team that all hate each other and can't get away from each other fast enough. Seems like a toxic environment.

It is good that LSU did chicken out. We don't need to have quitters wearing LSU uniforms.

IF (and it's a BIG if) this is indeed what happened, then CJJ didn't make this decision without Alleva's approval. Therefore, he should be axed as well.

However, the fact that this decision would have required Alleva's OK tells me all I need to know. There wasn't going to be any invite to begin with.

Maybe you're right, but nobody wanted to see this team in the NIT. Doing us a favor.

Those that have insight into the team's attitude made the right call. Even if we won the NiT, it would not be a redemption, but more fodder for ESPN. RIP 2016.

From the football to basketball situations this year, it starts at top, Alleva needs to go.

Here's how I envisioned the conversation going:

Joe: Hey Johnny....can you guarantee that we won't get embarrassed on national TV if I accept an NIT bid?

Johnny: Nope

Joe: ok, consider our bid declined.

Who cares? Move on.

September 3rd is less than six months away. That's all that matters.

joe and jones thought they could pull a fast one on the fan base and avoid the shite storm for missing the tourny. They are being slammed by every sports page on Facebook, so much for them avoiding the hammer. They are both cowards

I understand your thinking. I mean hey, even kentucky accepted their invite to the NIT tournament a couple years back. If Kentucky can attend the event, then so can LSU. But as someone said earlier, enough was enough. Im glad we politely declined.

Here's how I envisioned it:

Joe: Hey Johnny....we didn't even make the NIT, and I turned down the offer to play in the CBwhatever tournament to avoid you from embarrassing LSU anymore.
Let talk about your buyout and your resignation speech for Tuesday.

Johnny: OK, let me call Daddy Dale first and see what he says I should do.

Joe: Ok Johnny, see you Tuesday for the official firing.
