Optical illusion ...or did Guice look better in relief of Fournette last year?

His performance didn't jump off the screen last week like it did last year. You think it's because it was unexpected last year or was he a different back last weekend?

On a more positive note, Clyde showed some flashes.

BYU has a decent defense. They were pretty sure tacklers. Also, BYU had fewer guys in the box, which meant more tacklers downfield. The Cougars were determined to not allow the big play. They gave up a few, just not to Guice.

Stupid post but BYU played a safe defense and didn't allow him to break any long runs. I also don't think he was 100%.

They were only playing 6 in the box with 2 deep safeties. They were preventing against big plays but giving up easy 5-6 yd a pop rushes.

Not sure what you're alluding to, he looked pretty darn good this past weekend. He just didn't break off any long runs like he has in the past. BYU did a good job of preventing chunk plays, about the only thing they did well

It's harder to break long runs when more defenders are playing back. When there are ten in the box, it's just green grass after you break through the LOS. When there are 6 in the box, there are more defenders downfield that can keep from giving up the long run. Maybe you were disappointed in not seeing any long runs...

Are you illuding to the fact that he only had 4.5 ypc last week and he averaged 7.6 ypc last year?

I think BYU played pretty decent defense and their game plan was to limit big plays and keep everything in front of them.

Byu is very diciplined. Good technique and always seemed to be in right spots. That makes up for less athleticism some imo. Plus he got a little tired imo. First game and he got the rock a ton early.

I mean...yes he looked better in totality last year than in the 1 game he's played this year. His longest run was only 12 yards Saturday. That's not very Guice-like or the big play guy we were expecting. But that has nothing to do with some starter vs relief role.

We were a one dimensional offense on Saturday, BYU knew what was coming and still couldn't keep Guice from consistently hitting them for 5 yard gains. He still had a very productive game. If 120+ yards and 2TD is a "down" game, we're in good hands.

I'm sure I'll be downvoted to oblivion but I don't get how people can think Guice is better than Fournette. I'd take Fournette over Guice all day everyday.

Aside from forcing 3-4 tacklers to bring him down every run, yeah, he looked pretty pedestrian.

Fournette had one foot out the door and with the way the beginning of the season went down I can't blame him.

I did see some hesitation. 28 got up the field.
