I'm one of those older Alums that has been watching this rivalry dating back to the late 60's. I can't recall Ole Miss EVER being favored over LSU since the Archie Manning era...1969. Then in 1970, Archie's Rebel army came marching into Death Valley with a broken non throwing arm. Coach Mac had our Tigers all lathered up in what was supposed to be a highly contested matchup with LSU needing to redeem themselves from the previous year's loss. Tommy Casanova and team put on the most complete butt whooping winning 61-17.

Let's relive history this Saturday night!!!

If I am not mistaken they came in as a favorite in 1999.

We were.. We also lost the next (last) game at Arkansas (this is the ONLY time Les has lost two games in a row as LSU coach). But a month later, we embarrassed Ga. Tech in the Chicken bowl.

No way Ole Miss was favored in that game. LSU only had 3 losses at the time, and had just lost in overtime to #1 ranked Bama the week before. We remember the overall record, but LSU lost to future national champion Florida, a loaded UGA team, a Bama team that finished the regular season undefeated...

and then we tanked the last two games of the year.

Tigers were 10.5-point dogs to Ole Miss in 1993 for homecoming

and 4-point dogs in '99

True Metry, I was at the Dempsey kick but not OM, recall watching it as a 9th grader with my dad that night at home with aunt and uncle who were slight Arch/OM fans and dad having a good ole time rubbing in them and they finally left before end game a bit upset!
Fast forward, Bo will not come in with a arm cast but will be looking for blood; Tigs Must generate some type rush to slow down. If so, we will have a very good chance with this one!

He had an int and 2 returns for TD IIRC but some other guy whose name escapes me also had 3 INTs.....it was a bad day for Manning!

You might be talking about Andy Hamilton. I think Chris Dantin had a 55 yard TD run also and Craig Burns returned another punt for a TD.
Paul Lyons returned a Shug Chumbler INT all the way to the OM 5 yard line as time expired but actually got stopped from scoring by the throngs of people already on the field to celebrate- otherwise the final score would have been 68-17.

Actually it was Craig Burns, I meant 3 INTs, not TDs. I found this:
quote:

Tommy Casanova was the talk of the Tigers’ squad in 1970, but Burns had the game of his life in that 61-17 win over the Rebels. He picked off three passes and also returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown. His three picks in one game is still tied for an LSU school record with six other former Tigers. As for Casanova, he also returned a pair of punts for touchdowns.

Here is what they said about TC in the same article:

quote:

In what the three-time All-American called the game of his life, Casanova returned two punts for touchdowns – one for 61 yards and another for 76 – in that lopsided 61-17 win over Archie Manning and the Rebels. He also picked off a pass and helped the Tigers amass 306 return yards in a game that some consider the most dominating win by LSU over the last 45 years.

What about 1990? We weren't any good and they were ranked, I believe 17th.
