Oddly enough, Oklahoma State cost Les his job at LSU

Les may very well still be coaching at LSU today with the 2011 National Championship had Oklahoma State made that field goal against Iowa State. The connection of it being Les' old team is interesting.

Remember the good days of December 2011? LSU was SEC Champions, 13-0, and Miles was 3-2 against Saban.

Had Oklahoma State made that field goal LSU likely rolls in the Superdome. However, Oklahoma State misses the field goal, Alabama defeats LSU in the National Championship Game, Saban gains a mental edge over Les and LSU, Les is never able to regain his fire, and the rest is history.

This is all true and that missed Oklahoma State FG should go down in LSU history.

Just like Pitt beating WVU in 2007 should as well.

I still think Saban beats Miles all those years no matter what. Saban adapted his scheme to fit modern day college football and Les did not. That is the reason Les is unemployed today.

Miles would've been even more stubborn knowing his way won in 2007 and 2011

I think LSU wins in 2012 and after that who knows how history is written with Les 4-2 against Saban. LSU and the crowd opened the 2012 game very tight. It took until the 3rd to warm up but by that time LSU wasn't able to put enough points on the board to counter Alabama. National Champion LSU is much looser early on.

True, but losing that 2011 NC is what got the ball rolling.

If LSU had 2 NC's in the past 10 years, the leash is much longer. Fans would still be upset with the offense, but no way Les is fired right now.

Not just WVU, Missouri also lost that day.

However there is no assurance LSU would have beaten the Cowboys in 2011. So, the only thing we would have been assured of is that Saban would not steal Les' soul on 1/9/12.
The first half offensive performance in the 2011 SECCG was a harbinger of our offensive identity other than the Mett year.

Yes, anything could've happened, but I don't think there is much doubt LSU would've rolled.

That just would not have been a good matchup for OSU. Their defense was not very good. They were all offensive flash and LSU would've been the best defense by far that they saw that season.

I don't see anything wrong with it. The last 10+ years is still the best decade of football for any coach in program history. Why not discuss it?

Boise St vs. Hawaii.

Had Hawaii won that game, USC's strength of schedule would have been higher than LSU's and they would have been in the BCS championship game. But when Boise St beat Hawaii, which USC had done earlier in the season, that dropped Hawaii's RPI and hence, dropped USC's RPI.

I remember this well because on Monday after the BCS game was announced, I sent a poinsettia plant (it was in December) and a thank you note to the Boise State head coach, Dan Hawkins. True story.

that still eats at me. 2011 would have had an argument as the greatest championship team of all time. Would have beaten the Pac10 champ, Big East champ, Big 12 champ and an all world Bama team. I don't think any other prior national championship teams resume would have come close to that.

Yep. And the other crazy stat is that they would've defeated NINE ranked teams. And that's based on the final top 25. That just doesn't happen.

Would've been quite a legitimate argument for GOAT.

But alas....

I agree with this. It would have been considered as one of the best seasons of all time.

Maybe but without the stain of 1/9 and with two championships under his belt, would Miles have been firable without a losing season?
