Sorry if Germans, but came across this article, searched, and didn't see a post.

quote:

“That was crazy,” he said, laughing. “It’s 3 o’clock in the morning and we’re just now getting up, me and my grandparents, to head to Gainesville and we hear a doorbell. She’s like, ‘Who could be here at 3 o’clock in the morning?’ ... We open the door and it’s (Orgeron and linebacker coach Dennis Johnson). You know ‘Coach O’ — (mimics his voice) ‘What’s up, baby?’

“We’re all getting dressed to go to the airport, and he followed us there because I couldn’t get into the car with him. Literally, as I’m going through TSA, as I’m going to get checked in, he’s still talking to me. We’re (about to) miss our plane and he says, (mimics voice) ‘Wait. Wait. This about what you want to do. NFLSU.’

“He keeps going and going. ‘The next K’Lavon Chaisson. Not Arden Key. Don’t believe that. The next K’Lavon Chaisson.’ He said, ‘You ever heard of KeKe Mingo?’ I said, ‘Yeah, yeah.’ ‘You’re 10 times better than him.’ He keeps steady going. My grandparents are like, ‘We’re gonna miss the plane.’ Orgeron says, ‘Oh, don’t worry about that. You don’t need to go.’ ”

Chaisson admitted it was that effort from Orgeron that sold him on signing with LSU.

What the frick? 3 in the morning???? If that's the effort that O is putting in, then I have to say, we might be in good hands. Landing Chaisson alone may be one of the biggest factors in our prospects the next couple of years, and clearly it was all O.

That's the type of late in the game closing that O does best. He will close with some guys we aren't necessarily expecting right now when it's all said and done

I agree that landing Chaisson was huge, but landing Jacob Phillips in my opinion was much much much more impressive. Jmo.

I'm sure Les Miles used to do that all the time, right? Yeah right.

One thing I won't fault miles for is our recruiting under him. Whatever his approach was it worked just fine, look at the NFL right now

Biggest difference will be coaching and development. I remember Orgeron saying once that "guys don't come onto the practice field as freshman and rip open their shirt to reveal a big S on their chest, you gotta coach them and develop them" or something along the lines of that at when he was speaking somewhere. Orgeron is fully invested into developing the talent here to their maximum and you can see that in the shadow staff he's putting in place.

To be honest, Miles did very little to recruit those players. The recruiting staff and LSU's prestigious reputation did more than anything else to recruit those players and the only reason LSU has a prestigious reputation, to begin with, is that Nick Saban laid down the foundation for the LSU football program when he was here that is still paying off all these years later.

No doubt, and that foundation is still here for Orgeron.

I disagree

At the end of the day we have the most players in the NFL. By not give miles credit for being a good recruiter do you think that would have been the case almost 15 years post Saban no matter who we hired?

I'm not saying he is the GOAT, but the man was damn good at it. He had his flaws but recruiting was not one of them IMO.

I'm glad it worked and I'm sure ed knew the family would be receptive to it but I'm sure that would push some kids away. Credit to Ed and the recruiting staff for knowing it wouldn't push him away

Well said, we just have to hope he has a good feel for it. We'll know after the 2019 class which should be a great one if he is the recruiter we hope he is.
