I posted this in another thread, but wanted to post by itself. Just for fun, lets look at these 4 players in their first year starting in the SEC:

Brandon Harris (sophomore):
149/277 - 53.8% - 2165 yards - 7.8 y/a - 13 TDs - 6 INTs - 130.6 QBR

Dak Prescott (redshirt sophomore):
156/267 - 58.4% - 1940 yards - 7.3 y/a - 10 TDs - 7 INTs - 126.6 QBR

Zach Mettenberger (redshirt junior):
207/352 - 58.8% - 2609 yards - 7.4 y/a – 12 TDs – 7 INTs - 128.3 QBR

Jamarcus Russell (sophomore):
188/311 - 60.5% - 2443 yards - 7.9 y/a – 15 TDs – 9 INTs - 136.6 QBR

Hopefully this will relax some folks about our QB play this year. History, repeatedly, has shown the biggest strides in QB play come from year 1 to year 2. Lots of former SEC QBs we consider very good had very pedestrian years their first year starting.

Brandon clearly has the physical tools (arm, athleticism, smart kid). Lets just hope he progresses like some of these other guys.

Experience is key. He'll only continue to improve with game time experience.

Honestly, just look at numbers for underclassmen starters in the SEC. Obviously there are outliers like JFF, Tebow and Aaron Murray, but the vast majority are mediocre to terrible.

A. Probably the best ever for a freshman QB in LSU history, so that's probably an unfair comparison.

B. The numbers are still not that far off.

C. Different era of football. Those numbers would not be close to 1st team All-SEC in 2016.

Thanks, but are you sure the QBRs are correct? Look at year 2 for Mett and JR. How does ZM have a better QBR than JR?

They are literally copy and pasted from sports-reference.com. QBR is a weird formula that often doesn't make sense on the surface. I hesitated putting it on there.

There are efficiency portions that aren't really obvious.

I don't want to look up Jeffersons numbers because I feel like he got worse through the years
