Eye ball test....Harris looks uncomfortable in the pocket....looks for the pressure instead of downfield as the play goes on. Etling is always looking to make a play downfield. Is Etling an All SEC QB? No, but a better option than Harris.

I can say after watching this season's docket of games that Etling isn't much better than Harris.

The difference between etling and Harris is night and day. Literally and figuratively. We actually threw to the tight end with etling. The only 2 people Harris threw to were Malachi and dural. With etling under center we saw him throw to the open receivers. Dural, chi, chark, desean smith... shite Colin jeter caught some passes. If you can't see that etling is better for the team then I feel sorry for you

These stats don't mean shite considering how much Harris regressed.

2-4 in his last 6 starts before getting benched. He only had a rating above 130 in one of those games. And he didn't have more TDs than INTs in any of his last 7 games throwing a pass.

a 54% completion percentage v/s a 60% is a huge difference

I agree....plus Etling move the sticks better... shorter passes and more accurate kept the offense out of 3rd and 12. Harris was a walking third and long.

I think the first thing the new OC is going to need to do, is have the balls and brains to make Scott or Brennan the starter, or be a guru that can make Etling or Harris better than they have been by a good margin

I hope both Brennan and Scott are both better than Etling and Harris but they will still get lots of training and work in next year without the pressure of being the starter. Etling or Harris will start next year and one of the young guns will be groomed to replace them the next season.

Forget the stats for a second. Does anyone dispute that the offense looks night and day different with Etling?

Etling just looks comfortable. I held my breath every time Harris dropped back to pass. If his main target isn't open he panics.
This.

It's not incorrect, Harris got all cupcakes last year, split one with Etling this year, and then Etling had the South Alabama game cancelled.

So, I don't agree with the comparison of stats because the intangibles can't be included. But, I will say that O needs to go into next season with a truly open QB battle.

Etling
Harris (if he's still here)
Scott
Brennan
Narcisse
McMillan (and whoever is still on the roster)

It has to depend on the type of offense we run next season, and of course, that all depends on the choice for OC. Etling and Harris surely have the nods in experience, but who knows what will happen. But, that can and should be the call for next season...an open QB competition.

Not only is 60% to 54% a huge difference...but Harris had 15 starts compared to 9 with Etling, that is 6 more starts or half a season...that is another huge difference...

Etling was showing signs of improving as the season went along, outside of Bama when the line couldn't pass or run block, Harris showed no signs of improving at all from last season to the start of this season..

The only reason I'm convinced Etling did not get the nod at the start of the season is Harris was Miles recruit...

Except the difference in completion percentage. I would like to see 3rd down completion percentage also.

One thing left out that isn't a quantitative stat: the eyeball test.

Eta: Harris should and would be better off transferring to a lower division school so he can play right away if he wants a shot at the NFL

Harris still played more cupcakes and took major steps backwards as far as production. Etling has improved. I really don't know what you expected from this thread.

They are the same qb in regards to both statistical production, and win/loss production. Uncanny how similiar. Etling simply passed the eyeball test

But that is only part of the equation.

Even though the stats were the same, look at the proction:

More points
More time of possession - read defense on field less time
Better balance
Sustained drives - read opposing D on field more
Better play management
Ability to not lock on to 1 receiver
Spread the ball to over 8 receivers a game
Can throw a short to intermediate pass.

NO COMPARISON

Harris 1 full game was against the number 7 overall defense. Etling looked very bad and lost to all three top 10 defenses he faced as well......
