"I think his best weapon is just his ability to throw strikes," Windle said. "I think, for the most part, he always knows where it's going and he's always comfortable out there. As a teammate I'm really happy for him, but we also want to do what he does. He's kind of leading the way right now. He's got a full package with the stuff he has right now."

Nola threw 101 pitches Sunday, 66 of them for strikes. He started 17 of the 27 batters he faced with a strike.

"You do that every time and you're going to have a very long career," Eflin said. "It was unbelievable. That's exactly how I like pitching. The perspective behind home plate was he was just pounding the zone. Pounding, pounding, pounding and he just kept throwing the hitters off."

Only if my Astros would have picked him #1 last year.... He was underrated all the way up to his junior year in college and he is still underrated after being taken #7 overall

the kid is going to be a star in the league for many years to come as long as he stays healthy.

If he doesn't get his call-up by this summer, I'll eat my hat. Philadelphia are old, have gotten off to a terrible start, and have an an absolute garbage staff behind Hamels. Nola is currently 4-2 with a 2.04 ERA in AA and was sub-3 last year. His WHIP has been under 1 the whole time. He's ready to go.

I re-read the whole article to figure out what you were talking about, then I realized you were making an AA joke. I'm the loser here.

And he is

Pounding, pounding, pounding

He needs to slow down the consumption

All jokes aside, good for him. Hope he stays healthy.

Based on the Cubs pitching woes recently I'm upset we let him slide. I'd be willing to bet he would've been getting called up fairly soon

I grew up playing ball with the kid all the way through high school. He's off the charts talented. His greatest strength though has always been his demeanor and ability to throw strikes. Off the field he's reserved and pretty laid back. On the field though he's an absolute bulldog. The Greg maddux comparison is spot on.

All the more reason to leave him down. The Phillies aren't doing shite this year. Bringing him up will only start his clock faster, while having him potentially get rocked and lose confidence. If their lineup was raking and scoring runs, but the pitchers weren't getting outs it'd be one thing. But the Phillies are 28 in BA, and last in OBP, SLG, OPS, and runs. And 26 in fielding. I wouldn't put a young potential Ace in that mess.
