NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- NFL Films executive producer Greg Cosell recently spoke with an NFL scout who brought up Zach Mettenberger and Jameis Winston for comparison.

Cosell agreed.

In his weekly appearance on The Midday 180 on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville -- a show I help host -- Cosell said he’d take Mettenberger over Winston.

“Mettenberger and Winston are very, very similar in style of play,” Cosell said. "I’d argue Mettenberger is more advanced as an anticipatory thrower and has a little bit better arm.”

Yeah, but Mett couldn't run his way out of a bag of dicks. He'd just stand back and get mushroom stamped into the ground.

I'm not saying he's Peyton Manning, but Mett is more athletic than Peyton.

I like the added mobility of Winston, however there is no denying that few people on the planet have a better arm than ZM. I don't agree with Cosell but I can see where he's coming from. With a Dallas Cowboys type OLine, Mett could be very productive with his ability to thread the needle on intermediate routes.

I think most people are taking this the wrong way. Basically the dilemma in Nashville is (assuming they cant trade down from #2) do we take a QB or do we roll with Mett, and take an arguably better player in Leonard Williams or Dante Fowler.

Some of the Titans front office are so adamant that they need defensive help, that they throw out the phrase "well I'd draft Mett over the two QB's anyway".

Any logical fan can see that Mariotta and Winston have a higher ceiling than Mett. The debate is whether they improve the team around Mett, or scrap last year and start anew.

Let Mett start for 16 NFL seasons and he would get 1-2 per year.

Neither could:
Bob Griese, Joe Namath, Jim Plunkett, Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr, Len Dawson, Kurt Warner, Jim Kelly, Sonny Jurgensen, Roman Gabriel, Warren Moon, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Boomer Esiason, et al.

I recall Mettenberger taking off against Ole Miss in 2011 on a run he improvised and should have scored on for about 25 yards. On the next play Miles told him to take a knee (with 5 minutes left in the game.)

Meh. MAYBE they do. I mean, QB drafting hasn't exactly been an exact science lately. I really like Mariotta but he a GREAT DEAL of why he's good is his legs and that means just like mobile QBs before him, he might suddenly be VERY average if he gets dinged.

Draft collins to prtect mett. I guarantee you that collins will be even more motivated to block for the guy he played with in college...

Which goes to show you that athleticism has nothing to do with being a great QB. Ask Tom Brady.
