Very nice indeed. Swimming and diving should be next as that is at the very bottom of the Sec

No kidding. The very bottom. And would be at the bottom of most, if not all, power five conferences.

Shameful...

Were they not allowed to incorporate some purple and gold into the courts?

IF, we're not committed.....DROP the program and add a less costly alt. i.e. say mens soccer

And fix the PVC pipe before it becomes problematic.

Actually, it makes more sense to commit the dollars to swimming and diving. There are more SEC schools with swimming and diving than men's soccer.

I have advanced some ideas about the Natatorium before...

..we know Alleva has promised the Sand Volleyball program a new facility. LSU is studying whether it would be cost effective to convert the old tennis facility to sand volleyball courts. And since the new tennis center is nearly finished, maybe this is the time to begin considering a new swimming facility in a new location. That would make the site the Natatorium occupies a perfect location for a Volleyball and Sand Volleyball practice facility.

They have the money for the Nutrition Center but they are not allowed to spend it as I have read. People are donating money but it is not being spent on projects?

Politics. LSU is reluctant to spend money anywhere until after the Legislature convenes June 11th.

I think you're missing the logistics on turning tennis courts into volleyball courts versus tearing down the natatorium just to put a volleyball court in its place.

I think you misunderstood me. I already made a thread about what it would cost to turn the old tennis courts into sand volleyball courts...peanuts. That's probably why LSU is currently studying the feasibility.

My post was predicated on that happening. Because then the site the Natatorium occupies would be the perfect spot for a volleyball practice facility, given as it's right next door.

This is what I said in Predict the next big TAF project:

quote:

The new sand volleyball team needs a facility. Mangos was used as the teams home site for the inaugural season. Some rumors going around that they were going to turn the current tennis stadium into a sand complex for the team.

That's the last I heard as well. Doesn't seem as if it would take a lot of money to convert W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium into a sand volleyball facility.

I believe the holdup there is waiting on the new tennis facility to be completed before beginning renovations on the old one.

After all, the tennis players still need a place to train.

Edit: Just looked it up...

quote:

The overall size of a tennis doubles court is 36 feet wide by 78 feet long. The singles court is slightly narrower measuring 27 feet wide. Both singles and doubles courts share the same length.

quote:

International beach volleyball is played on a court measuring 8 m by 16 m, or approximately 26¼ ft. by 52½ ft, for doubles. This represents the court itself with no additional boundary to keep spectators back. For play with teams of three, four or six players, the area size increases to 14 m by 24 m, or approximately 46 ft. by 79 ft.

So it looks like the stadium could easily be re-purposed.

Most tennis courts don't have one. They cause problems with shadows during day matches.

Nat was just redone within the last year on the inside. May not be much to look at on the outside but the facilities are top notch.
Seating capacity is another issue, but I don't see LSU sinking a bunch of money into a new natatorium if the old one was just freshened up in a major way.

Yes, what's up with the Tulane court colors? Is there no company that can manufacture a Tennis court in LSU's colors.

Blue & Green. Gimme a break. If I were the LSUAD, I would not allow that......

I call B.S. The facility as a whole it bar none worst in the SEC and that is a widely know fact.

LSU (or TAF) needs to do a fundraiser to restore the Huey P. Long pool.
