Basically we should have gone ahead and paid him double because we can't do that in the future if needed. Got it.

And how are you sure there on are no bonuses associated with his current contract?

So Aranda's agent comes to Alleva and says:

"OK, 1.8 is what it's going to take to keep him here"

Alleva is suppose to say:

"Oh forget that. We'll give him 2."

dont plan ahead
We are. We have money ready to go if he asks for more. You don't pay more than what they're asking for. There are literately countless reasons not to.

Are you truly being serious with this thread?

Dumb dumb, we made him the highest paid coordinator in the country! You don't just throw money to outbid yourself!!! If and when the time comes...you renegotiate.

so you're saying it was a frick up to ink a deal, a 3 year deal, for less money?

LSU should have offered more, even though that was market price?

So LSU made him the highest paid assistant coach AND gave him an additional title... but should have gone higher, just for the hell of it?

Oh, btw- it's 1.85 mil next year and 1.9 mil in year 3.

but fine, tell me this; why not pay him 2M? were AT LEAST 1M under the 7.1M we paid last year for the HC/OC/DC, so why not just send a message to the CFB world and bump Dave from 1.8 to 2?

Maybe I can dumb-this-down so you can understand why you wouldn't unnecessarily spend money in business when you don't have to do. Just because you have $20 in your pocket, and you want to purchase that sack of goodness that will only cost your burnt out arse $15, you don't give them the whole $20 because you think you need to when nobody else is buying. You save the $5 just in case you need to pay $25 next time.

How is making someone the highest paid coordinator in all of college football fricking up? You set the figure besting the previous figure, and it ended up being $1.8M which was a $500,000 raise from Aranda's $1.3M from his first contract with LSU, and it actually to $1.9M per year in the 3rd year, so actually a raise of $600K per year.

I think LSU did a tremendous deal and why set the bar higher than it has to go? That is the smart way to run a business, and if the bar ever gets to $2M per year LSU can jump it to $2.3M - $2.5M, so why do it 3 years before? AT that point LSU will have either done excellent with CEO or be looking for a head coach and you don't lose Aranda at all, just promote him and pay him $4M per year. He never has to take that big TV off the wall
