Don't go. I'll be in a box in the ground before I ever go back to Oxfart.

if you're going to stay 45+ minutes from Oxford in Greneda or Tupelo, you might as well stay in Memphis where there are actually fun things to do. Or try to get a place in Tunica

I think they do this for the Miss. St. game....the team typically stays in Memphis for the Ole Miss game, I believe....

Ole Miss people are happy to tell you how good they are at tailgating. The grove is unique and all, but once you realize that beneath it all it's just Walmart chicken tenders with no music. The novelty wears off VERY quickly.

The fuking grove is a catered event with canned heat only. Biggest joke in Tailgating Lore.

I can only speak from my personal experience, but I really enjoy going to Oxford. I agree that the tailgating is overrated, but it's not bad. Never had anyone try to beat me up and I've never really been hassled. Always have a good time when I go.

I hear ya. We do a couples trip every year to one road game. It was either Starkville or Oxford. Options were limited.

Have to put your beverages in a solo cup, can't bring grills or anything to cook with so they eat terrible food, every person on campus is packed into one little spot so you can't move, can't have music, have to listen to hotty toddys and them talk about how good their football team is and how much better they are than you, stadium sucks, the town is so small on game weekends traffic is so bad you can't get anywhere, the hotter women thing is just a myth it's just that all the girls there dress up like they are going to some fancy party instead of a football game. The only thing they have going for them is they have some pretty cool bars but on game weekends they are so packed you can barely get in. The library which is their best bar will have a $20-$25 cover on game weekends too. So yea I quit going

I live in a subdivison 3 blocks north of the airport in Tupelo and drive on the street in front of it everyday. 4 years ago at 5:00 on a Friday, I saw a group of people with LSU gear and flags, etc, standing at the gate near the airport parking lot. I pulled in to join in. LSU flew in about 5:15 to Tupelo and got on buses to go to the Hilton for Friday night. They leave Saturday at 2:00 to bus over to Oxford. After the game they bus back to the airport and fly back to B.R.. They are at the Hilton Friday night only. They are not there Sat., they're flying back. I saw them both 2011 and 2013. I saw two players from my home town and talked to them about 3 minutes. It's always a thrill for me to see them, since I had to move over here in 1992. Geaux Tigers.

I am staying in Grenada.

And if you havent already booked....get ready to pay 150-250 a night in a dump in Batesville. Oxford has been sold out for months.

Careful, we stayed in Grenada a few years back, took that back road after the game and MS state police had a road block set up about half way with nothing but LSU fans pulled over.

Had dogs searching one guys truck.

There was a Highway Patrol checkpoint once just north of Grenada. Just be polite and provide the officer with your license, etc. Not a problem.

Could not agree more! Total shite hole when it comes to hosting a major college football game. Hang on, don't rip me. Great little town, very nostalgic etc....BUT, can't handle large crowds for hotel housing etc...

Oxfart sucks!!!!!!!

Thanks for the options everyone!

I want to party light the night before, so I am looking toward Memphis, or stay in tupelo. Are there decent bars and restaurants in tupelo? Although I would love a cheap arse motel the wife would kill me.
