Know he led us in rushing one year and that he also got hurt, but why did he not play more, get more carries? After he was hurt did he ever come back fully? Sorry if this was covered years ago. Thanks

He led us under Archer, then asked by Curley to move to fullback after he signed a top running back class.

As bad as LSU was back then, they were not hurting at RB
Unfortunately they were lacking stud olinemen which Louisiana did not produce as many in those days and the talent on defense was pretty bad too.

He had a very serious injury and never really recovered, to full form. But Beckam was a very good running back, highly rated from Tx.

He seemed to have married well and has a good career.

Odell Beckham, 8 GS, 42-237, 5.6 ypc
Robert Toomer, 3 GS, 49-191, 3.8 ypc

1991
Odell Beckham, 1 GS, 81-415, 4.9 ypc
Vincent Fuller, 10 GS, 86-350, 4.0 ypc
James Jacquet, 0 GS, 39-234, 5.6 ypc
Germaine Williams, 1 GS, 36-168, 4.5 ypc
Leo Abel, 9 GS, 29-120, 4.0 ypc

1990
Harvey Williams, 11 GS, 205-997, 4.7 ypc
Calvin Windom, 0 GS, 56-237, 4.1 ypc
Sammy Seamster, 6 GS, 36-163, 4.5 ypc
Odell Beckham, 0 GS, 29-126, 4.4 ypc

GREAT STUFF Doc Fenton, thanks for posting, I think JJ actually had about half his yeards for season in one game? Ole Miss maybe? Great point about the OLine, those were some decent backs to have so little yards

A friend of mine started on them teams and according to him curly just flat out hated him. For whatever reason curly had it in for him.

He told me at game of century in Tuscaloosa that it was because he had a high school coach for head coach and cheerleading coach for RB coach. Not sure who was RB coach back then. L

There's an ongoing argument on the Rant about just how much Hallman is to blame for how low the program dropped, with me always being on the side saying that Hallman actually improved the talent level of the program he inherited.

It really is hard to emphasize enough how bad the talent drought got. People who argue on the pro-Archer side say that he signed some highly regarded classes that just weren't "developed" or whatever, but I'm just not buying it. If you're an athlete and have a gym to workout in, scouts will usually find you, even if you play at a I-AA school, D2 school, or even a D3 school.

RBs, O-line, whatever ... it was pretty bad across the board during the Hallman years with the exceptions of Todd Kinchen, Kevin Mawae, Rodney Young, Eddie Kennison, & Gabe Northern ... and I'm pretty sure Hallman signed those last three.

In the NFL drafts from spring 1992 to spring 1995, LSU had a grand total of 6 players selected in 4 years ( LINK), only one (Mawae) was a top 50 pick.

The spring 1991 draft wasn't much better either, as Harvey Williams was the only one taken from LSU in the first 6 rounds.

I will say that I do remember some very good DBs from that era, not all of whom got drafted for whatever reason ... like Derriel McCorvey for example. I was just a kid back in those days, but I do remember announcers and people talking about how DBs were the team's one relative strength (outside of the one-man show known as Todd Kinchen) back on that horrible 1991 team in Hallman's first year.
