I think LSU would fare better as a 10/11 seed rather than being a 8/9 seed. If we are 8/9 seed, we would have to play a #1 seed in the second round, but get a 10/11 seed & we would have to beat a 7 or 6 seed, then get to play a 2/3 seed in second round.

I hate when people are dicks on here, but there are literally 3 other threads on the first page discussing tournament seeding.

Basically everyone has already agreed with you. At this point, I just want to make the tournament.... I also wouldn't mind the 8/9 matchup, cause if we play in Charlotte (50% of 8/9 games played there) I am going...

Unless something crazy happens, it should be Duke and Virginia in Charlotte as #1 seeds. It's real close to me too, so if we get sent there, I might have to make the trip.

It's not close to me, but I have a buddy who said I could stay free... I'd fly up there.

I need to back and look at the statistics, but I think this whole 8/9 thing is probably a myth.

8/9 seeds make it to the second round more often (50%) than 10/11 seeds (40% and 33%, respecively).

8/9 seeds have also been better at making the final four and even have won a national title.

I could be wrong but I think the only place that 10/11 seeds do better than 8/9 seeds is making the sweet sixteen. So I guess if that is our only goal we should want to avoid that 8/9 seed.

I think it would be interesting to see the numbers. One question, when you say "second round" I assume you're talking about sweet 16 and not the round of 32, correct? Otherwise an 8/9 seed makes it to the second round (round of 32) 100% of the time

If you think about it, it makes sense. You figure that the #1 seed is one of the 4 best teams in the country. It's likely that to get to the Final Four you'll have to beat the #1 seed at some point. It's just a matter of beating them in the second round as an 8/9 or in the elite 8 as a 10/11 seed

For instance, your likely path to the Final Four as an 8 seed is 9, 1, 4/5, 2/3

As a 10 seed it would likely be 7, 2, 3/6, 1

Basically, if you can "slay the beast" early, your path to the final four seems to be mathematically easier

Really had to break out the calculator for that one.
