My pre SEC tournament Host Predictions

1.Oregon St vs Long Beach St
2.North Carolina vs Southern Miss
3.Florida vs Clemson
4.Texas Tech vs Arkansas
5.LSU vs Wake Forest
6.Louisiville vs Kentucky
7.TCU vs Arizona
8.Stanford vs Virginia
ACC - 5
SEC - 4
Pac 12 - 3
Big 12 - 2
Big 10 - 0
CUSA - 1
Big West - 1
I have Stanford in this spot for now, they are trending up and if they sweep this weekend will be 21-9 in their respective conference with close to a top 10 RPI.
Although Clemson has a nice RPI they are dropping in the eyes of the human vote.
Kentucky is that one team on the brink, with a solid week they can make the case to be that third team.
A lot will change this week but I think 7 of the 8 spots are locked in.

That'll be a a long plane ride for UVA.

There's always one or two teams that have to travel a ton to make it work.

I think UNC gets the #1 seed over OSU. OSU has been great, but their strength of schedule is the second worst of any team vying for a top 8 seed. I wouldn't even be shocked to see them drop down to #3 behind Florida. UF has the second best SOS.
Clemson is in free fall, but they've played a far better schedule than Stanford. They have the same number of top 50 and road wins as Stanford. If the committee wants a second west coast team though, Stanford is the choice.
I know everyone says the SEC won't get 3 teams, but it's hard to see Kentucky be left out for the likes of Clemson or Stanford, or even TCU for that matter. UK has far more top 50 wins than any of those 3 teams. If UK gets left out it is strictly because the committee didn't want 3 SEC teams, which is kind of chicken shite.
My prediction of the top 8 (right now):
1. UNC
2. UF
3. OSU
4. TTU
5. LSU
6. Louisville
7. TCU
8. Stanford (I do think the committee wants a 2nd west coast team if for nothing else, geographic purposes)

That's my thinking too
It's almost a Kentucky vs Stanford race right now.

No consideration for Southern Miss at all.?

It kind of doesn't matter as much about your SOS when you play in a major conference and hardly ever lose. Only 4 loses....Oregon St is the number 1 seed.
Do you realize Louisville has a better ACC record than UNC?

-Strength of schedule similar only to that of Louisville (not a good thing)
-Only 12 games played against top 50 RPI (although OSU has only played 13, can't exactly fault them here although it doesn't help)
-No wins over top 25 teams currently.
Granted they have dominated their conference although it's been a generally weak year in CUSA. Nonetheless there's nothing that jumps out on paper and for this reason alone they'll be a host team. As always the committee will offer up one of the non power 5 hosts to whomever they chose.

I'd be shocked if OSU doesn't get the #1 overall seed. #1 in the RPI, hasn't lost a series all year. By far the most consistant team all season.

I agree with your top 8. Stanford not having to play in a tournament should help them. They probably at least win 2 out of 3 at least.
UK could make the discussion interesting if they make a deep SEC tournament run. What if LSU goes 2 and out combined with this?
Does a run push UK ahead of Stanford? I say no.
What if Standford takes 1 of 3, and UK loses quickly. Does that open the door a little for Southern Miss?
Clemson is almost a goner IMO. They would likely have to make a massive run in the ACC tournament to jump back into the discussion.

I think Florida and LSU are locks due to SOS, top 50 wins, and conference record. I don't remember the last time besides Ole Miss in 2009 where an SEC team won or shared the SEC regular season title and didn't get a national seed. Ole Miss did go quickly 0-2 in the SEC tournament and Florida was sniffing at the door and got the #8 seed even after 1-2 but I think that was more a part of SOS and quality wins.
quote:It may be too early to tell, but if Kentucky makes it to Saturday or Sunday it will be extremely too close to call between the two. We all know the committee will push to have another West team hosting.
Does a run push UK ahead of Stanford? I say no.

I feel the same, only way they get back in the conversation is a clean sweep through the conference tournament.

quote:I tend to agree but I keep remembering that someone posted yesterday (maybe you, Adam) that there has never been a national seed with fewer than 40 wins for the season. LSU is at 39 wins.
I think Florida and LSU are locks due to SOS, top 50 wins, and conference record.
I'd just prefer we win at least one game and get the "less than 40 wins" excuse out of the way.

Must have been someone else although I agree it doesn't hurt.

Nola.com did a story. Last one was 2009 I think. And it's happened a few more times prior to then. Looking at tad's thread, you can see lots of teams in contention don't have 40 wins yet. Good chance this year's top 8 will feature a team without that threshold.

SIAP, but I just read on al.com that Missouri is using Houck today vs. TAMU.
TAMU is going with LHP, Fr. John Doxakis, 2-3, 5.12 ERA.
ETA: Today's games starting pitchers
