My Opinion: Not Happy About This Staff

I am glad that Steele and Orgeron are good at recruiting. And, I am glad that Cam Cameron was in the NFL for so long. This is a great staff for convincing high school guys that they can come to LSU to make it to the NFL.
But...
Where is the cohesive coaching to win at college football?
It is a questionable staff because there is a lot of flash and excitement and entertainment and they will get people to look at them. But, it reminds me of hotshot staffs put together at Tennessee or Ole Miss or Auburn where there is a lot of energy and top kids are recruited, but the results on the field are meh. Those were programs in serious trouble who needed to make a splash. Maybe that is where LSU is. But, those types of programs often do not win championships.
Where is the coaching excellence? Vision? Plan? Stability? Steele is a great recruiter and terrible DC. Orgeron is a great recruiter but has never been a great coach. At a school like LSU, isn't it better to provide great coaching?
Les believes that great recruiting will get us over the top. Now we know why he was passing on great DCs - they were not great recruiters. Les now believes that he wins on the recruiting trail.
True. But all of these top guys also leave after 3 years, setting the program back, or keeping us at am 8-10 win team.
I will always pull for LSU, but I would have rather seen excellent coaches hired instead of average coaches and great recruiters.

I'm not reading all that.
This has been discussed a lot.

With coach O now on board I think steele will be good because he will have talent he did not have at Clemson and his first stint at bama he was working with what Shula brought in. He won't be as bad as people make him out to be IMHO

Why would you believe he cannot coach DL?

I would have been ecstatic with Shoop+Ogre. There were several combos with Ogre that would have been home runs. Who knows how Steele will be...it's a risky hire and I'm surprised and disappointed. It was either a money thing or a contract thing IMO.
Could be great but it's too late in the recruiting cycle to have any impact this year. Keep your fingers crossed.

As far as a defensive line coach, Orgeron has coached multiple first round draft picks.
For a position coach, you won't find a better DL coach in the country.
In his positional niche, he is the best there is.
I do share your concerns about Steele as an X's and O's defensive coordinator.
Now, I'm thrilled with Coach O, but that hire has some folks asserting that now, anyone who breaks the euphoria by expressing thoughtful concern about Steele's track record is "not a fan."

Not Happy
Just a request to Chicken and the admins...is there any way we could possibly get a stickied thread for all those fans who are just plain old unhappy? Doesn't matter he reason they are unhappy...just that they are.
In this proposed thread, each and every one can post until they are less unhappy about how unhappy they are. and because they will be posting within an echo champber of unhappiness, they'll be rewarded with tons of upvotes and atta boys.
Or...is that's too limiting, what about a few threads like:
Unhappy About Coaching
Unhappy About Hiring
Unhappy About Scheduling
Unhappy About Recruiting
You get the idea!
And the rest of us can step out from under the the cloud of negativity that has been allowed to wash over the entire board.
Thanks in advance.

The facts say you're wrong about the latter. In 3 of his 4 seasons as DC, Steele's teams finished in the top 30 nationally. What's more, several of the great 'Bama linebackers from the '09 and '11 BCS champs were recruited and coached up by Steele, not to mention the past two years.
