Mullen might be the 3rd worst coach in the SEC.

Don't overreact. Miss St was bound for a bad year. This happens to every team after their do everything QB leaves. Plus they lost a good DC.
Mullen has done a hell of a job at Miss St despite how limited they are. He tried to get out last year, but bigger jobs weren't biting. He's kinda stuck right now on going to a better school though, unless Oregon's job opens up.

Let's not forget that loose cannon manboy Jeremy Foley effectively stalked him (Mullen) since Mullen left Florida years now, screaming at the top of his lungs to anyone who would listen about how Mullen is a terrible person and unfit to be a head coach.
He (Foley) supposedly talked at least one AD out of considering Mullen 3-4 years ago.
Speaks volumes about Foley, IMO. Unless Mullen drilled his wife, there's no possible justification for someone in Foley's position behaving in such an unprofessional manner.
The guy has legit anger and/or other psychological disorders going on (bipolar maybe, borderline perhaps).

They also had a quarterback controversy, Brady Hoke at DC (who's never been a DC) running a one gap defense... It's a mess over there. I would definitely say a down year, while teams like Washington are lighting it up.
