That wasn't the whole quote. Go read the whole quote. He basically said we were in the right position and didn't make the plays. What do you want him to say after the first game? The defense sucked and the coaches are terrible?

This?
“Our new defensive staff did an outstanding job,” Miles said after Washington carved the defense for 478 yards and 25 first downs. “They got our players in good position to make tackles and they improved as the game went on. A lot of the night, we ran the Tiger defense that I want to see.”
Huh? On a tight deadline when any quote from the coach is coveted, that was one I couldn’t, in good conscience, bring myself to weave into the game story.
While it’s fully understandable Miles wants to be positive with his team, to classify Saturday’s defensive performance as something he wants to see is a major stretch.
Talk about improvement, adjustment, resiliency — yeah, all of that is fine.
Besides Jacob Cutrera’s interception return for a momentum-changing touchdown in the first quarter, though, positive signs for the LSU defense were as tough to find as a dry day in Seattle.
As much as I like and respect Miles, that quote doesn’t add up.
All that said, step back and take a deep breath.

These quotes that Miles makes all the time make me dislike the man even more and question the fact if he really has a f'ing clue

Les Miles Is to LSU what Barry Switzer was to the Dallas Cowboys.
