No, he didn't leave ESPN until his contract was up.

He broke his contract to pursue other opportunities because he thought they were better.

Patrick is arguing that while Miles is under contract with LSU, Les should honor that contract.

Patrick failed to do the same thing at ESPN.

I get what you're saying, but it's apples and oranges.

I also guess that I could say I agree in principle with what Dan has to say about the situation, but it's just not the way the world (especially in the SEC) works. I assumed DP of all people would understand it.

1. he had an option year on his contract at ESPN for the last year
2. he left on good terms(at the time)
3. he didnt have a job lined up when he left. So it was hard to argue it was a negotiation ploy.

they are not really the same.

and he didnt use the media as a negotiation ploy.

if you want a raise, as for one.

dont play it out through the media. Or at least come out and deny the job like he eventually did some 36-48 hrs or so later.

If you were in his positin, youd probably have done the same thing. It's all business.

The issue of the handling of this by Miles and Alleva is not irrelevent to many who do support LSU.

You have no clue of the handling or level of involvement. That is all!

cant say for sure, but i was very surprised to see Miles do it. I didn't take him for that kind of person.

He is already one of the top 5 paid CFB coaches in America. On what basis does he deserve a raise at this point?

had he won the MNC last year, sure. He had played in another SECCG this year, sure. But he pissed away the Bama game and is seeded to get the 5th best bowl game out of the SEC.

I dont know Rocket, it just rubbed me the wrong way. Somethings are better left behind closed doors.

and of course not eveything is out there in black and white, but his motives seem pretty clear.

I think Arkansas had sincere interest and money talks. Most people don't pass up a raise when the opportunity knocks. Opportunity knocked.

I figured at this juncture though he might have asked the AD to give some raises to his assistants

Miles has been around long enough to know that there are very few loyalties in his profession.

You guys are mentally retarded the minute someone says something negative about Lsu you go crazy. Guess what miles makes mistakes he is far from perfect. You can't go around thinking everyone is wrong because they say something that's not pro Lsu. I can think of a hundred things wrong with this program, doesn't mean I don't love them.

Exactly. This story broke after lunch on Tues, CLM had his PC after lunch on Wed, and all the "issues" were resolved by then. So tell me exactly how he played the media again? If he wanted to do so, he could have easily carried this over thru next wk & really exerted some of that all powerful leverage. A call was apparently made from a friend he's known half his life, the topic came up in a general conversation apparently, no specific dollars or yrs if you believe CLM, and I do, he respectfully declined any interest, J.Alleva then approached him bout a raise that had been previously discussed, it got done, and it was all over in less than 2 full working days. He must play the media as well as he manages the game clock then.
