Miles' play calling is truly just baffling

I know I know its what virtually every thread is about. But yet it seems at least half the posters seem to defend it and keep saying a win is a win. Sure 1-0 is better than the alternative BUT we were literally a made kick away from losing. In other words at that point the fate of the game was not in LSU's hands. And without the dumb delay of game penalty by STATE they probably use their normal kicker instead of the one who hasnt attempted one in over a season.

So with that said I would love to know how exactly do some of you ppl defend the play calling? Why did we deviate from what worked so well in the first half and had us leading 14-3 only to be outscored 16-7 in the second half and nearly lose?

Ive seen oh we averaged 5.7 ypc. Great but that obviously didnt equate to success in the second half once the pass threat was gone. Why you ask?

Fournette first play of drive 20 yard run. Second play 11 yard run. STATE says ok we see where this is going so we sell out to the run. Fournette for 2 yards 3 yards and 3 yards consecutively then punting time. Well guess what Fournette just ran 5 times for 37 yards. 7.3ypc. Great average but a failed drive because of no passing threat.

First half Harris looks fine making nice throws over the middle of the field. Desean Smith catch comes to mind. Actually not a perfect throw but a great athletic leaping grab by Smith which is exactly why we should use him more. Then the "no catch" that we all know was a catch was a well executed play. Plays like those back the defense off of the running game and allow balance and allowed us to build the lead.

tl;dr version

How do the defenders of the play calling justify it when we were outscored 16-7 one the atrocious play calling began?

This is what a Cam Cameron offense looks like. It's no different than we what saw at previous places he coached. I don't like it.

Should have been a blow out. If state has a decent kicker or doesn't get that delay, its a loss for us. We will have to throw the ball more than 14 times a game if we are going to be a true contender this year. And I think we all agree the talent is there for this team to be one.

I think both Miles and Cameron live in 1975. Imagine if Mullen abandoned the passing game after how Prescott performed in the first half. Miles offensive philosophy is a waste of talent and takes fun out of watching a football game.

Ok so clearly you agree with Miles' game management then yet offer no example of why instead bash ppl who question it.

So weve seen the same offensive tendencies through multiple coordinators but Miles has nothing to do with that. Ok.

When you have a legitimate Heisman candidate in the backfield, you run the ball. If anything the penalties are what hurt us.

Actually, the problem is it is not baffling. In fact, it's completely predictable, which is why LSU was a dropped 2 pt conversion, and then a last second field goal, from losing to a significantly inferior team.

THAT is the problem.

Penalties no doubt hurt. But once the game had clearly turned in their favor we still refused to do what worked so well in the first half. Nobody is saying abandon the run. Fournette was good in the first half too. We were able to finish those drives though cause we also had a passing threat.

This is one of the biggest things I hate about Miles. Our offense will be clicking moving the ball and he takes his foot off the gas, then we get in trouble and he tries to put his foot back on the gas. It don't work like that you have to keep it up,keep your foot on their throat!!!

Having an offensive philosophy and calling plays are two completely different things.

Well that's just not true. What it looks like to me is Cam/Les were trying to win a game in a hostile (really hostile) environment on the road with a guy starting his second game. Yea, I think we should have thrown more but I will take the win on the road in the SEC. Take a look at the SEC Losses and see how many passes they made. AU 32 with 2 int's, MST 52, vandy 50 with 3 int's, Ark 53 with 1 int and TN 31 with 1 int. Mizou is the only team to throw for more than 30 and win.

I agree with you 100% and if this continues this team will not win another championship under Les Miles. I hope Les and Cam open it up,because if not this can easily be a 3-4 loss team.

Definitely, we need to throw the ball downfield on early downs (sometimes) and be less totally obvious, this offense is playing at about one-tenth of its potential (and all of that is on the playcalling). I'm so tired of Miles/Cameron's offenses not getting anywhere close to their potential every single season.

The ppl who bitch about play calling are ridiculous.

I wasn't entertained enough.
Its never going to change after game 1.
I know what's better for the TEAM than the people paid to work daily with the team.
If only we'd throw 35 times a game.
I deserve better entertainment
