It's amazing watching how open our offense was before the ghost of Jarrett Lee scared Miles silly.

Looking at the weapons we have this coming year and the fact that the offense looked willing to change the last two games of last season, what are the chances we spread the ball around again this season?

I know Fournette is and should be our workhorse. I just think giving Harris some three wide shotgun looks can really do us some favors.

Also, Jennings and Flynn are eerily similar athletically. They throw and move almost the same. Flynn was obviously better at decision making as a 5th year senior, but I wouldn't give up on Jennings just yet.

If not now then when? Half the time AJ doesn't even put a tight spiral on it. He can't play.

Put him on the bench to start this season. He earned his spot there. But I like him a lot as a backup QB, and if Harris struggles I have no problem putting Jennings in after his suspension is over.

We all know Harris is the one with the athletic gifts. He needs to learn how to command an offense (not just learning the playbook). He should be more comfortable in his second year.

Also, players get better.

See Brandon Allen at Arkansas. Horrible his sophomore year. Looks to have a big year as a senior.

Jennings is suspended and charged with a felony. I don't see him returning as the starting qb.

2013 offense was awesome. Different formation sets though. Crowton used more 4 wide sets.

Sure, but Miles had no hesitation with opening it up.

It comes down to how comfortable he feels with the QB.

Unfortunately, LSU has been unlucky over the years with developing them.

Observations watching 2007 Florida:

1) Les was a lot more animated and engaged back then. Not blaming him so much for his outward demeanor these days; he's in his 60s now.

2) Matt Flynn was a vocal leader--something we haven't had out of qbs since, including Mett.

3) Keiland Williams was not a strong runner. He went down on first contact just about every play.

4) Florida neutralized Glenn Dorsey by running right at him. But Dorsey was still a vocal leader, which we need today on defense.

Developing them has nothing to do with it, it's the way they develop, everyone is different and not everyone can become this all American day one or even year one nor two. This year Brandon will take his lumps but I think can get better and better as the season goes. Next year will be the year to decide whether LSU can develop QBs. But I have no doubt they will. This year will be better but LSU will need some luck to do anything beyond 2 or 3 loses IMO. We have to win the bowl game and the bama game this year though. I'm sick and I'm sure everyone else is sick of losing these two games especially.

This is what I noticed as well. And he was much more open to throwing to all parts of the field. 2013 was great because we had so much too end talent, but I liked how the 2007 offense could go between power football and wide open spread.

We are very fortunate that some of you aren't QB/OC Coaches.

He lost all confidence in players.. He plays it close to try to win it late.. It's too taxing to play so tight.

Used to be when the D was in last to hold on for a win, I knew we had it, now, I figure we lose, but with a new coordinator maybe that changes.

cautiously optimistic.

The LSU QBs since 2007 (pre-2008):

4 years (2008-2011) of Jefferson and Lee. 64 career TDs. 41 career INTs. Lee was the better passer, but was erratic. Jefferson was the better runner, but was often afraid to make a decision in the pocket and would get sacked.

2 years (2012-2013) of Mettenberger. One average, at best, year and one GREAT year.

1 year (2014) of Jennings (AKA Jefferson the Second). Afraid to even throw at all.

2015? We'll see.

Bingo. The offense was wide open at Georgia that year. Plenty of 3-4 WR sets & Mett throwing the ball all over the yard. The game plan was similar at Alabama as well. Two first half turnovers, JC Copeland at the goal line & a bad snap before Mett was ready for it, was the only things that slowed down the Tiger offense in the first half of that game. Saban & Smart gambled in the second half with relentless blitzing & the offensive line just like the defensive line, fell apart in the second half. Plus Welter got abused against the run & in the short pass game as well.
