re: Miles: May see Beckwith in the middle on first and second downsPosted by Child of the Missip on 9/19/13 at 1:10 pm to BigEdLSU
Nice now we have size and speed up the middle. Also this kid will have something to prove.
The defense should start to clear up in the next week.
You may still see Welter starting, but that should start to phase out.
I have little doubt that Chavis knows what he's doing. He understood who we were playing in UAB and Kent St. He used those games to see the young guys with the bullets flying. The 2 Frosh who truly stepped up appears to be Tre White and Beckwith. I suspect both will continue to solidify their minutes.
This week will be a good test. Aub runs a tough scheme and will make the Tigers work. We will be up to the task.
So far, it looks like the starting LB's should be Alexander, Beckwith, Barrow. If the young bucks KA and KB keep improving that could be a stud LB crew.
At this point, my biggest concern is at S. Loston is hurt (suprise), Martin has been Ok (to be nice), Eugene has been good. No one else has done much.

Im not sure what presnap reads and adjustments the Mike makes in this defense, but i [nervously] trust the Chief when he says hes ready.
quote:was Beckwith here in the spring? I don't think it's realistic for a true freshman to come in and start game 1 at MLB. Too much potential for blown assignments, big plays given up.
I like the move, but its probably one that should have been made weeks ago.
It's been pretty clear since last spring Welter wasn't going to work out
Beckwith has so far seemed to me to be a great prototypical MLB, something LSU has rarely had in the last 15 years. Great size, speed, instincts. Will be fun to watch!

having beckwith and garrett next year will provide a tremendous run stopping lb group.

I'm patiently awaiting TIGRLEE's opinion on this subject.

for the next 6 years at least we will be sick on defense. We need to get some big DT next year in the draft class though.
