Saban didn't make a "shift", he hired a OC thst had some baggage. Very few coaches had the political capital to hire Kiffen.
Exactly. Bama still runs a prostyle offense but with a change in playcalling. This notion that Saban has ahd this huge shift in offense is utter bullshite. They are still a defense 1st team that uses the run to set up the pass. They are still a run 1st team. They are still close to a 60 -40 run pass team.
College football isnt about innovation. Its about execution and getting talent. The most talented teams still win most of the big games.

this is unmitigated bull shite.
the information age has ZERO to do with college football.
You could argue that the "information age" has transformed the primary way that humans interact with each other and make decisions. Take this instant for example. We are communicating on a message board about LSU football. Granted, we aren't making much of an impact on people's decisions, but certainly the aggregate (Zeitgeist) from the online community does make a difference. It influenes recruits' decisions (see Mannie Netherly for a recent example). It steers the donations of influential boosters, and influences AD's hiring and firing decisions.
The fact that coaches have twitter accounts and that most athletic departments have an online media staff should tell you something of importance. From a more technical aspect, you should look into the depth of statistical analysis done in the videp room these days. See XOSDigital.com. It's phenomenal and has absolutely provided a technical advantage over those that don't employ these methods. It's like navigating the streets of an unfamiliar city with GPS vs. a paper map. One method is simply more effective.
As such, the "information age" has everything to do with everything. To deny this fact is a folly.

In all honesty, Miles' flaw and refusal to change is focused largely on the offensive side of the ball, which is ironically his area of specialty.
He's shown an openness for change on the defensive side of the ball, but has just made bad to mediocre hires in many cases.
Saban did open up his offense once Kiffin came around, but fundamentally it is still rooted in the run game. The issue with Miles is two-fold. His poor choices on the recruiting trail, and refusal to sub out poor performers at the QB spot.
JJ was a perfect example of this. In his junior year, despite horrid play, he was trotted out there time and time again with Lee only getting spot duty or last ditch time to save the game. This only solidified JJ's belief that he was doing fine, and very little changed for him at that point.
When he did make the changes, Miles was always too late to the game, and put his players in a horrible situation (see Harris making his first start on the road against a top 6 team at the time).
Saban and other coaches didn't wait. They made changes and it worked out because the QBs felt a legitimate shot at starting and at being replaced. It brought out the best in them and showed they had the "chest" to use Miles' term. LSU, on the other hand, talks about chest and then babies their QBs to such a degree that they don't develop, and you have what you have. Add to that a man focused on a pro-style offense continually recruiting dual-threat QBs and you get the LSU you see now.

The fact that Les went and hired him, as he did with Pelini (a youngish rising coach), is completely ignored in this desire for 'change'
Not true. 2 "changes"/shifts are cited. Aranda hiring and Cam to sidelines.

Quote The Buddha,"When the student is ready, the maestro appears!" I have had my critical moments vs. CLM, but I think that all the planets have finally aligned for him to get his mind right...after all, winning college football game is 98% recruiting...reflect on Shorty and U.M....great recruiters...now, LSU is matching all comers in the recruiting department with the greatest recruiting staff in LSU history, bar none! The future is bright if this staff holds together for a couple of years...jmho

This only applies where humility is also ready. Hoping and praying that has appeared as well.
