Maybe the biggest waste of talent in LSU's history...

ESPN's writeup about former LSU linebacker, Shawn King....
Very good read...I graduated with him from West Monroe High School in 1990 and I have always said he was the best talent to come from that program since Jerry Stovall.
Waiting for all the replies about the fight with Shaq...

I was expecting a Simmons flame.
Man that guy has had a tough life. Hoping that he can continue the progress he has made.

Good read , my favorite part ..........King grabbed Ceasar. He beat him pretty good. King was one of four football players arrested that night. No basketball players went to jail. But Hallman and LSU basketball coach Dale Brown got into a shouting match in the hallway. Brown stepped into Hallman’s face and said, “Listen, rookie…” according to a 1994 story published in Sports Illustrated.

All that trim at LSU, and he and Shaq gotta love the same one....
Props to King for being in a better place for himself these days. He should give coaching D-line in college or pros a try after his kids graduate.

Shawn was 3 years behind me at WMHS. he was also a great basketball player and took WMHS to the PMAC and almost won state.

Biggest waste will always be Cecil Collins. I've never seen a running back like that dude. Damn shame!

Glad I said maybe, because I forgot about Collins.

Diesel Collins, Shawn King and Ryan Perriloux, 1 A, B, and C.

I disagree, he chose to do what he did. The whole bending and breaking thing in the name of Christ is a joke IMO, but whatever...it is a career for him now. What any of us would have done to have that athletic ability.

Watching a raging alcoholic dad smack your mom around on the reg is kind of tough for a kid no matter your skill set as an athlete....

Definitely tough to get a good nights sleep without nightmares

Although he in the NFL, Russell Shepard is up there too IMO

No. Russell played, graduated, and made it in the pros. He was just always an athlete without a position. Not even in the same league as the others mentioned.

Uuummmmm.....no
Ever seen Sheppard throw a ball???? He was never a division 1 much less sec QB. His progression as a WR was totally on him. He had the coaching. Might piss some off here....but he was very much overrated by our fan base...

Hmm, no mention of him and his brother $teering their nephew Cam Robinson to Alabama?

Years later, LSU fan message boards still spread rumors from the fight. In one thread from 2008, a poster said King “pulled Shaq’s shirt over his head and beat the tar out of him.”
the rant strikes again

I can never completely agree with this. I remember the first spring game RS and the fat boy from Mississippi played in and they both threw the ball well. I thought we would be set at QB for a while. It didn't pan out and I'm not sure why.

Yes. King is up there, but Collins was one of the best running backs I have ever seen. Oh what could have been.
