Maybe I'm crazy.....(Caleb Roddy)

But in what world is Caleb Roddy a 3 star prospect...
This dudes senior footage is out of this world.
Size-wise, he steps off of the yellow bus ready to play in a college game (and he will only get bigger and stronger). The dude is Extremely athletic, has an unreal first step, is relentless in pursuit, and lays the wood when he gets to his target.
Call me crazy, in a class that has Lawrence, Logan, and Alexander up front, Roddy might be the best of the bunch.
Of course DE's and DT's have different assignments within a defensive scheme, so praising Caleb, isn't a sideways way of throwing salt on the other guys up front (As Lawrence's tape is also out of this world).
But if I'm predicting potential draft picks...
Caleb Roddy looks like a top 5 pick in my opinion.
I was excited after seeing his early prep career footage (sophomore and junior highlights) last year after he committed. His senior tape, leads me to believe that he might be the prize of this defense. Not because he is underrated, but simply put, he looks like the most dominant player I've seen in quite some time coming around that end.
P.S.
All things considered, It is scary to think how teams plan to move the ball I this defense. With Aranda calling the plays.
P.S.2.
I decided to post this on the main board, since Roddy and crew or officially Tigers, S we are no longer recruiting them..

He will be a good football player. Pump the breaks though. I'm sure you go to or live in denham so you want the best for him, however tame your expectations of him. Let's just see how he does in college before we claim he will be a top 5 pick.

Not even close...
Going off what I see...
New Orleans born and raised..
No ties to Roddy in the slightest since.
Question..
Have you seen his Senior tape?
LINK
Or maybe you'd be more inclined to see that the OP was extremely objective, if "Insert your favorite recruiting site here," had labeled him a 5 star.
I'm just guessing....

I was with you until this...
Most 5 stars don't end up going top 5 or even top 10.

So did Joe McKnight and Kyle Prater and Seantrell Henderson

No, I have went to every home game this year, as my old ladies brother plays for denham. I think he will be a good player. I'm just saying I think he will need some time. I didn't find his tech to be advanced enough to come in and dominate at the college level. Hey I'm not a scout. I still say tame your expectations of any incoming player until we say how they adapt to college players.

Does it matter how many stars a recruit has? Aranda will have these young men ready for Wisconsin. That's all that matters

Lets not pretend you can't see supurior talent in high school players game footage.
Reggie Bush.
Leonard Fournette,
Patrick Peterson
Clowney (pre-injury)
Just to name a few off of the top of my head.
But then again, all of these guys were rated as 5 star prospects. So this goes into my point of people being swayed by recruiting rankings (often contrived by people who have zero to negative athletic ability).

Question for you....if you suited up right now, and played 700 snaps this year, do you think I could make a highlight tape with 15-20 plays where you dominated the guy across from you that made you look all world? I'd bet most all of us here could. And probably none of us would be rated with any stars. The difference between most 3 stars and 5 stars are the plays not in the highlight tape. The every down plays. They are good players to be recruited by schools like lsu, but some of you folks need to realize you are watching HIGHLIGHTS...the absolute best plays of hundreds during a season. Are there misses in recruiting? Sure. But by and large, they get it right far more with regard to the star rankings than you are giving them credit for.

The sky's the limit with his frame and athleticism. Its his attitude, maturity, and work ethic that need to catch up. If he buys into what the college coaches are wanting him to do he could be great.
I also think he's a young senior. Has plenty of time to improve where he needs to. Its all up to him.

You do realize that Roddy's senior tape is like 8 minutes long.
A play last about 5 to 6 seconds.
If I can put together over 10 minutes of highlights on one player.
It tells me one thing...
This player has made a hell of a lot of plays..
A player with a 1 minute highlight tape, clearly hasn't had as much of an impact as a player with a 10 minute tape full of impactful plays. I can feel your counter argument if I was only looking at about 50-60 seconds worth of footage.
And to think that all 700 plays allow for a player to display his talent is flawed logic at best.
How many of these 700 plays was my number called if i'm an offensive player.
How many of these 700 plays were away from my side of the field if I'm on defense.
Rule one to judging talent on a football field,
You dont have to find play makers. You can't miss them..
Why??
They are always making plays :-).
I never thought that a player having highlights as being a negative..
For example...
I looked at Jarvis Landry's HS footage a few years ago and told everyone who would listen that the dude had the best hands I had ever seen. And I'll still argue that Jarvis is way more consistent then Odell. Both make the spectacular catch, but it is once every blue moon that Landry doesn't catch a ball that is anywhere near him.
On the flip side, if I was saying David Tyree had the best hands in NFL history because of that one catch in the Super Bowl, without seeing him make at least 10 other plays of the same fashion, it would be a better time to make that claim of someone being fooled by highlights.

Glad he's part of this class! He needs to behave a better though. Good friend of mine is a parent really involved in the Denham program and says he needs to grow up fast.

Just as embarrassing as someone saying Landry isn't 1st round talent because of a slow 40.
Somehow, that slow 40 time has yet to stop him from getting open.. Or setting the record for receptions to start a career.
If the draft could be redone, i'd bet good money that he'd go somewhere in the first..
Instead of the second..
Back to the topic....
I didn't see much difference in Clowneys prep tape, then I see in Roddy's prep footage..
No worries, one of the best features of the rant is that it serves as a growing catalog of comments and predictions...
I have no issues in speaking of the talent I see. Let's revisit this thread in due time.

I totally agree that Roddy has great potential from what we can see online. I also watched him in the Marine All American game. I was surprised to see he was lined up by coaches at defensive tackle. Dispite this he was able to be one of the outstanding D linemen in the game. Not only my opinion but, the anouncers acknowledged him.
A great prospect for us I hope.

I have to agree...he gets off his blockers with ease and seems to have great vision of what is going on around him. not yet ready to say he is pro material, but he damn sure destroys everyone he meets in that footage!
I am glad he is a tiger!...
