Also told he was the "second choice" for the O-line position

quote:

Currently living in Baton Rouge and serving as a volunteer coach for a fifth and sixth-grade football team, Mawae applied for, but was not awarded the LSU offensive line coaching job earlier this year.

“I was pretty certain I’d nailed the job,” Mawae said. “But I was told I was the second choice. So I just sat back, sat still, and prayed about what was next.”

Mawae attended the LSU-Mississippi State game on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium and didn’t care much for what he saw.

“I think what everybody thought was going to be the strength of the team this year — the offensive line — I think they’ve been a disappointment this year,” he said.

Because he had never coached before.

Can we bring him on as a consultant. I think the issue Miles had is that he's never coached or recruited before. We needed a strong recruiter in that spot. I'm not saying KM can't, he just has no exp.

I love Kev, but 555 is actually right on this one.

He did help out with Vandy and others on a volunteer basis, but really doesn't have the pedigree to garner a job like LSU's.

That said, I am certain he'd be a better motivator.

Mawae was the right choice. Success, career, leadership in NFL, legacy, etc etc etc.

But hey, it's Les making the choices and since he's won a bunch of games, you should never question him. Got it!

I'm sure he'll be a good coach; hopefully in some capacity with LSU soon.

Are people actually defending the OL play? I haven't seen that.

I guess it's hindsight. Up to this point, Grimes has been a huge disappointment. The OL was never this bad under Studrawa, which is something I never thought I'd say.

I said it when it was announced hed gotten an interview. It was a courtesy interview. He needed to at least have SOME experience to get the job here.

Maybe....but they WERE a disappointment. He didn't say they weren't talented or they suck arse...just that they are a disappointment and I agree.

LSU should beg him to take the job.

His credentials alone would help recruit, and being an annual NFL all pro I think he knows a thing or two he could share with those recruits that would make them better players. Seemed like a slam dunk hire.

I'm sure it is hard for a future NFL Hall of Famer and former NFLPA president to sell a kid on the university he loves...

As far as coaching goes, the amount of mentoring along that he has done in college and in the league should count for something.
