Well...Barkley is Auburn alum and likes to take shots at LSU. Shaqhas done the same often. Just not this year.

Well you recalled wrong.
Ah, I see. Which post was it that claimed his UNT resume warranted hiring him at LSU?

Yes, I overstated the "complete failure" comment. But claiming that it is "a stretch" to call a record of 5 20+-win seasons in 6 years a "consistent 20-game winner" is seriously overstating (at least) as well. I was responding in kind. While you did provide a perfectly reasonable explanation for discounting JJ's record those last 6 years at UNT, it does nothing to negate the truth of the statement that he did indeed raise UNT to a consistent 20+ game winning program. Which comes nowhere close to deserving a shot as the LSU Head Coach, and certainly not on its own.

Also, I have no need to chastise people, nor validate (on the internet). Both involve utterly unproductive negative emotions, which I make a habit of avoiding and try to encourage others to do as well. As far as "fair criticism" and "hate" go, this board has an extreme overabundance of the latter and a near-complete obliviousness regarding the concept of the former. This is the board that still reasonably debates the suggestion that Les Miles was a horrible coach. I'm not sure anyone can realistically argue that such a place can claim credit for "realistic criticism".

North Texas had cracked the to 20 before Jones was the head coach so he didn't have unpresidented success there either.
This thread already has both an Obama and Reagan reference, so I don't see how you can call Jones unpresidented.

I agree and apologies for the strong reaction. I misunderstood what you were trying to say. It seemed as though you were labeling a majority of ppl and scolding them for calling him a complete failure when nobody actually did. And my comment about not being a consistant winner was because he'd won 20 5 out of 11 years not 6. Yes 5 of his last 6 were when he did it but you can't just throw away years you don't like even if they were while he was building. The praise of his wins should be framed differently. And again if you look at the numbers and how they were achieved you'll see that he dropped his level of competition dramatically to attain his win totals. Did he improve North Texas? Sure he did. But he did not do something at that level most ppl would say, hey this is a guy on the come up and a rising star. Look he kindve followed the pattern once he came here. He's given us the worst stretch of bad schedules in LSUs history. Which is why those first 4 seasons he was winning 19/20 games and not even on the bubble. If you're a fan that dates back to the John Williams Don Reddin days like me you know that LSU basketball can be legit. No we are not Duke or Kentucky but we are def in the Florida Wisconsin Michigan pool of teams. We don't need to find the next superstar coach to get us back on track. All we need is a good basketball coach who can pull our top 3 and 4 year in state guys with 1 or 2 of our top 5 players regardless of one and done status.
