Mainieiri needs to focus really developing a third starter next year

Stop the Johnny Wholestaff in midweeks and use those games as a way to develope a third guy.
If there would've been a game three tomorrow, they would've had to piece together a staff with Omaha on the line. Had they been prepping in midweeks with one guy, I would've felt a lot more confident going into tomorrow.

Wouldn't that be a 4th guy?
The problem this year is that our 3rd guy was deemed ineffective 3/4ths through the season.

Uh, that's not what lost us the super.
We left the bases loaded.....twice. You can't do that and expect to beat this level of competition.
A third means nothing when they beat your 1and 2.

Two things that has haunted this staff 1) Mac Marshall never played and left after the fall in 2014 2) Jake Latz suffered an injury early in his career. Those two coupled with Jake Godfrey leaving because he wanted to be draft eligible hurt this staff. The injury to Alden Cawtright didn't help matters

Forgot about Ole Mac. Man, I was excited for him. Any word on how he's turned out?

What was wrong with C. McKay this year. He was highly thought of before this year and from the few times I saw him he just didn't look like a guy that we should have worried about making it to campus.

Need to focus on timely hitting. That means focusing on contact hitting. Our guys pop up to much because they are trying to do too much.
Also, our outfield needs some better arms. I've never seen so many throws to the plate die off at about the pitchers mound...

He needs to sit whoever is not playing well (aka Jordan brothers), but he didn't do that.

He needs to focus on FUNDAMENTALS

OP, I think you're exactly right about a 3rd starter. We do need to focus on it.
If only Pauline wouldn't have said the exact same thing after a flameout in Omaha and then failed to develop or even emphasize finding one after they put the kibosh on Valek.

We said all this for years and it hasn't happened. What makes u think it will next year?

We need to develop a 3rd starter as well as a solid midweek starter

Na, he needs to concentrate on getting a job at a mid major.

I can't remember a time in manieri's tenure where we had a reliable 3rd guy besides Austin Ross. This team lacks left handed pitching, reliable middle relief, and a solid third guy.

Fundamental and a hitting coach that can

I'm totally fine with Cannizaro. He's done wonders for this team. A lot of those guys are very young. Not putting it on him.

I hear the players don't like Cannazaro

We are gonna need a second starter... Poche isn't gonna be here next year imo

I'm sick of the Jordan twins. It seems like they haven't done anything productive in awhile. Which is why Bryce got benched. And if we had any outfielders with a lot of playing time I feel Beau should have been benched too.

The problem isn't in "developing" a third (or fourth) guy; the problem is in not having him (them) on the roster. CPM tried like hell to "develop" dependable starters and long-relief pitchers. They kept failing.
But let me understand you. Are you saying that CPM should settle on his best options for the third and fourth starters, and then he should stretch them out even if they're getting shelled?
So, it's the third inning next year against Tulane in a mid-week game. CPM, with your approval, has settled on Bain. Bain is going to be our fourth starter. It's 2-2 because Bain just gave up two earned runs on a home run. Now he's walked one and given up a sharply hit single. There are runners at the corners with no outs. You're saying to keep him in? You're saying to stretch him out even if it means getting stomped in this game?
