LSU's Underrated Defense

Everyone in the media is talking about Bama's defense and how they stopped Fournette last year. They fail to realize is LF is a lot more experienced, more polished, and his field of vision is like no other. Couple that with Derrius Guice, who leads the SEC in rushing, Etling, speedy receivers in Dural, Dupre, and Chark, and LSU is a lot more balanced offensively.
What no one is really talking about is LSU's underrated defense. Sure we gave up 10 points on 2 busted plays in the secondary and a fumble in the redzone, but LSU allowed ZERO points in the second half and is still the only team in the country to give up more than 21 points a game to any team in the country...

Aranda feels you out for a half and then seems to shut everyone down in the 2nd half

Our oline was young last year. Boutee our strongest lineman wasn't ready. He was the only one who could have held his own vs that bama DT 1st rounder that kept blowing us up. Our guards are much better. Boutee is ready.

Hoodatt, thanks for the correction. It's just amazing how no one is talking about LSU's defense except the LSU fan base and only acknowledges Bama's defense.
We have a lot of KEY players (no pun intended) Key, Adams, Beckwith and Riley who had amazing game last night and D. Jackson who had a few penalties, but still played solid defense.
Can't wait to see Devin White more!

Our OL is not ready, we will get our stuff pushed in if we don't play better vs. Bama. Just being honest. OM had 10 tackles for loss, they were in the backfield quite a bit, got lots of movement.
Bama's DL is twice as good as OM.

No, what people fail to realize that there was no adjustment to the plan and nobody on the team did anything to take any of the burden off Fournette. We just kept ramming LF into the brick wall over and over expecting a different result. This staff will not do that.

From what I've gathered, he kinda shuts opponents out after their first and second drives
If you can't put up big points in the first quarter, you probably won't beat LSU

Philter, good assessment, but it also goes both ways. LSU is going to wreak havoc in Bama's backfield as well. People forget Arden Key had more TFL than any player in the SEC.
Also, Bama will have to cover all of LSU's receivers. OM showed they can expose them in the secondary so LSU could do the same with Chark, Dupre, Dural including the Tightends.

Great analysis and right on the money! I-Formation seemed to be the only play we had since we lacked balance. However, this time they will need to account for not only Fournette, but also Guice, wide receivers and the tightends.

Agree..I think it'll be a close game. They lost their best CB and best kick returner, that will help our passing game. We have better balance this year, and that will help our running game and OL blocking.
It only takes a few big plays to turn a close game into a big lead, and both teams are capable of making those game changing plays.
It will be an exciting game, LSU has the best chance of beating Bama of all the teams they are scheduled to play.
