I am kind of ashamed to admit this, but I really had no idea that LSU ever had a wrestling program...

RIP, coach...

They terminated the wresting program while I was at LSU--late 70s. The team was involved in several fighting incidents.

Believe it or not, Coach Larry Schacatano (sp)had one of the best wrestling teams in the SEC back in the day, like someone said back in the 70s. Big John Tenta who went on to a career in the old WWF was in our Super Heavyweight category. Used to have several matches before Men's basketball games. Great watch and definitely can get exciting if you are familiar with NCAA wrestling. Prayers and condolences sent to the first LSU wrestling coach's family.

Brodhead scrapped the wrestling program when I was in school. I think we finished in the top ten in the country that year, after being ranked as high as #5.

It was after the 1984 season. Very heartbreaking to those guys.
