Except Sherman wasn't from Louisiana.

Wasn't WTS born in Ohio?

Or is there someone else who burnt SC?

So you claim an Ohioan who worked at your university for 4 years as one of your own? Seems legit.

Get back in your coffin, deadman!

The war ended 147 Years ago! If a-holes like you would ever let it go, maybe something positive would happen......

Like you'd quit posting irrelevant Bull shite on The Rant rather than a political or history page!

Sherman was interested in LSU and assisted the university until he died.....which is a lot more than some of the confederates who have buildings named after them on campus did......

I don't understand what would be racist about the picture. This could be a picture of Germany or Japan in 1945. I just don't understand. If anything, you could say it has nothing to do with LSU sports, but racist? That is a stretch.

Not sure if this is sig worthy. Its dumb, and funny, but I wonder if it makes sense out of context.

re: LSU's first president pays a visit to the great state of South Carolina
well, it was a joke based in history and truth....after Sherman marched thru Georgia, the motto of his army as they moved north was "make Carolina scream..."

now (and it seems like the 1055th time that I've explained this)

Sherman did some big things for LSU...

when the Army left Baton Rouge in the mid-1870's Sherman transferred the original Pentagon Barracks (now part of the State Capital complex) to LSU, which was home to LSU until the present campus opened up in the mid 1920's....Huey Long's purchase of the Pentagon Barracks for the new State Capital provided funding for campus expansion...

there are several Sherman items floating around Baton Rouge and LSU...he donated books out of his own library to LSU...

one of the big campus mysteries is the disapperance of his portrait from Boyd Hall in the mid 1970's....

true that Sherman burned Columbia pretty good, but he didn't burn any USC's Campus it was used for the headquarters and hospital.

Who Burned Columbia in 1865?

We do have an affinity for Brig. Gen. Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard, CSA, who commanded the Confederate forces in Charleston at the Battle of Ft. Sumter. I believe Gen. Beauregard was a Louisiana boy.

Jim , certainly catch what you are doing there and certainly got a laugh but remember our Fightin Tigers are actually named after the Fightin Tigers who fought under Gen Robert E Lee. Cant forget our Southern Heritage there ole Jim even though William T. Sherman sure burnt his mark on the south.

sherman literly HATED south carolina. he blamed south carolinians for fort sumpter and i think he lost some friends in battle there. shermans famous march to the sea included pretty much destoying as much of south carolina as he could.

"You don’t know the horrible aspects of war. I’ve been through two wars and I know. I’ve seen cities and homes in ashes. I’ve seen thousands of men lying on the ground, their dead faces looking up at the skies. I tell you, war is Hell!" - William Tecumseh Sherman

After the war, General Sherman donated two cannons to the institution. These cannons had been captured from Confederate forces and had been used to start the war when fired at Fort Sumter, South Carolina. They are still currently on display in front of LSU's Military Science building.
