The team will be recognized on the field prior to this Saturday's game with Alabama.

Thirty years ago the 1986 team was the first LSU team to ever go to Omaha after defeating Tulane 7-6 in the South Regional title game at Alex Box Stadium.

That team won both the SEC regular season championship and the SEC Tournament championship. It featured six future major league players.

ETA: That team is holding its 30th anniversary reunion this coming weekend.

Six future major leaguers?

Skip underachieved.

I'm not serious, just couldn't help myself.

Would definitely be the narrative if this team played today.

Well, you're right. I don't want to derail the thread, and Skip's success speaks for itself, but 6 guys that made the show is incredible. Hell, I'd imagine that is one of the more impressive squads in LSU history when looking at MLBers.

I know it was a joke, but that was the first time any of those guys had ever experienced anything like the CWS. Without a doubt LSU would have won the CWS in 1987 if they made it to the NCAA postseason with the best hitter in college baseball.

This. The 1986 team was ranked No.1 by Collegiate Baseball for most of the regular season. It was the first time an LSU baseball team had been under the microscope the way everyone now expects. Also, the team might have peaked a little early.

LSU should wear some throwback pullover jerseys like the ones in the pic.
