re: LSU Women's Lacrosse TWLL Conference Tournament: We are the 2015 Div 2 Champs!!Posted by AmericanHoop on 4/20/15 at 8:25 pm to Lakebound
I second that question.
Excellent question Lakebound.
The simple answer is that we are a young program trying to put together a quality product before moving up to the Div 1 level within the WCLA.
The parameters to compete in either division are up to the individual teams on where to compete. We base our currrent status on many factors. 1 of which would be our roster over the last 3 years.
Half of our current roster is made up of athletes who did not play lacrosse before college. Attempting to compete against current Division 1 programs in the WCLA would be quite the daunting task at this point in our program's early history. That said, we do compete against area Division 1 teams that we feel we can compete with such as Baylor, Houston, Tulane (currently working their way back into WCLA), & others in an effort to test ourselves.
But for us to consistently take on the Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida (club), etc. at this point would be slightly counterproductive. This is due to those programs & many among the Division 1 ranks boasting rosters full of quapity talent with at least HS experience, many often with middle school/youth level starting points. However, we are striving to improve our program, improve our roster/"recruiting", & our budget so that we may someday move up a level while putting a quality product on the field.
The good people of TD can certainly assist us in our efforts by simply spreading the word across the Nation via social media, direct networking, etc that we have a quality lacrosse program here at LSU, for both the men & the women. Young players have an opportunity to receive a wonderful education here in Baton Rouge while finding themselves a roster in which they would see immediate & substantial playing time.
We can be reached via email, facebook, twitter, & of course through the LSU UREC Dept.

Is LSUWLAX involved in any community outreach during the off season to promote or help develop Lacrosse in the State? Growing up here I do not remember too many Lacrosse youth leagues.
RUKidding,
We most certainly are involved in developing the game here in LA.
In fact, tomorrow (Wednesday) a few of our players & a coach will be putting on a clinic for St. Joe's Academy-our 2nd clinic with them so far this year.
A few players have become youth area lacrosse officials to assist in the growth of the game in the southern region of the state as well.
Plans are also in the works to host an event on campus for potential future players to join LSU as well as instructional segments to teach brand new players the basic & intermediate skill sets.

Thanks for the info. You guys are excellent, just excellent. Best of luck with the fund raising and continued growth and success of the program. I know how hard it can be to generate support for a minor sport.
LSUWLAX is in good hands. And Congratulations again on a Great Season !!!!
