LSU fan requests a moment of silence for Shelby - WVLA NBC 33
quote:

"About 15 years ago, my son was a toddler, and we were out at a ball game. Shelby saw that I was having problems keeping him happy," Glen said. "About the fifth inning of a really good game, Shelby comes back with a baseball and gives it to my son. That stuck with me to this day."

Glen took to Facebook Friday morning to get the word out about taking a moment of silence for shelby at Saturday's homecoming game, and LSU answered his call.

I know there is already a thread about Shelby’s passing on the OT, but now that LSU will be honoring him with a moment of silence at Homecoming it deserves to be on the Rant. Please consider joining LSU in honoring a truly great Tiger fan and remarkable man by helping honor his life and help his mother through this very difficult time.

Shelby was a longtime employee of the Baton Rouge River Center. The staff there have created an online donation campaign to direct money to only Shelby’s mother, Dorothy Chissell. Make a Donation Online

A Shelby Holmes Memorial donor account has been also been set up at Region’s Bank. Please consider visiting any location in Baton Rouge to make a contribution that goes only to Shelby’s mother, Dorothy Chissell.

Holmes lived with his mother and took care of her and his siblings, (LSU Sports Information Director) Bonnette said. "He was kind of the man of the house in a lot of ways and he certainly will be missed by that household," Bonnette said.

"He was a great young man," said LSU Senior Associate Athletics Director Verge Ausberry. "Great family. These things; it's painful."

Ausberry remembered Holmes as quiet and very polite. "He always had a kind heart and his mother's the same way," he said. Holmes' mother, Dorothy Chissell, works in the facilities division of the LSU athletic department.

Win or lose, Holmes loved LSU and The Saints and was a true fan, Bonnette said. He always smiled and made those around him happy.

quote:

“He traveled to great lengths to follow the Tigers, no matter the sport,” LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette said, who worked with Holmes for a time. “It’s so sad that something so bad could happen to someone whose life was just full of good.”

Hopefully they catch the person that did this and burn them in a vat of oil.
