..and not for awhile. If we can get past Auburn relying on defense and less than 15 pass attempts, no matter how ugly the win, Miles will ride that through the next several games, and assuming there isn't a tremendous letdown, we could go all the way to the bye seeing more of the same. Then, just like in 2012, we come out throwing against Bama (I picture Verne and Gary sounding like this.)

Win or lose that game it would be perfect timing with Ole Miss, Arky, and Aggy having to gameplan accordingly, opening more holes for LF7.

We may (and should) see more zone reads tomorrow and maybe Harris'll bust one but the 2012 formula could benefit us down the road. Grind it out to 7-0 (worst case 6-1) then on 11/7 go to the air early and often until the Bama defense craps itself, embarassing Saban into forfeiting.

Unfortunate to say I think they open the passing game up on syracuse. Away game, haven't played each other in many years, and we have a terrible secondary. I'm just waiting for it...

Its gonna be hot as hell.

I'm thinkin rotate in all 4 RBs and keep the game uptempo to gas them in the first half. In the second half...The Buga and DW beatdown.

lsu will never open up the passing game under miles.

we might pass a little more, but a high powered passing attack is not a trademark of Miles.

even with the storied, legendary Mett/landry/beckham year we did not have a wide open attack.

would you guys please just stop?

what we have is what we have. that's just gonna have to be good enough.

Might not be a bad strategy but I wouldn't expect that

I would expect DW to get more first half carries to keep Buga fresh for the second half though

I think they'll slowly open it up over the next few cupcake games. So it'll be finely tuned against Bama. I just don't think it's wise to try a completely new offense in the biggest game of the season.

Yes let's wait to develop the passing game until the moment we really really need it.

Brilliant!!!

I don't think that's what we want. By "open up" I assume the OP means simply passing more to create a balanced offensive attack. It can still be run-heavy, but more passing keeps the defense guessing and actually opens up the running game more.

And, oh by the way, we have stud athletes at WR and need to give them chances to make plays.

Miles' goal has always been to win, no matter what. He does that by trying to minimize the number of frick ups the players can make. If that means running the toss dive 50 times, he'll do it. He'd rather have Fournette and the cadre of running backs get behind a good to great o-line and run it down the throat of the opponent to win 24-21 than have the quarterback, even if it's Mettenberger or Matt Flynn, throw 30 times for 350 yards and win 35-21. A win's a win to him and he could give a frick if it's frustrating to watch our talent go to waste on the edges and behind center.

The obvious problem is what too often happens for LSU and that is we really play not to lose by the time the fourth quarter rolls around and there is no better way to lose a game. But his record speaks for itself. He's found a winning formula and it's hard to question its effectiveness.

This. The coaches know they're going to have to throw everything they have at Bama--they let Jennings throw 26 passes against them last year. If we're 2-0 on Sunday I think we can come out with the same offense as last week and beat every team on our schedule until 11/7. By then I think Harris will have continued to make minimal mistakes and "do what the coaches haved asked him to do" and he'll be more up to the task of needing a big game.

AU hasn't exactly looked great against the run so if the run works there is not going to be a want to take higher risks in an SEC game.

We'll pass if it becomes necessary.

After this game, there will be some games that set up well for experimentation.

Any news about Trindon playing some defense? Can you imagine his speed on D?

Alright, some facts:

Games from 2010-present with 15 or fewer official pass attempts - Record 5-1 (.833 win pct):

2011 vs Florida (14 attempts) - W, 41-11
2011 @ Ole Miss (8 attempts - all complete) - W, 52-3
2011 vs Georgia (13 attempts) - W, 42-10

Games since 2005 with 25 or more official pass attempts - Record 16-8 (.667 win pct):
2014 vs Miss St (37 attempts) - L, 34-29
2014 vs Alabama (26 attempts) - L, 20-13 ***4 of these came in OT...all incompletions.
2013 vs TCU (32 attempts) - W, 37-27
2013 @ UGA (37 attempts) - L, 44-41
2013 @ Miss St (29 attempts) - W, 59-26
2013 @ Ole Miss (33 attempts) - L, 27-24
2013 vs Furman (26 attempts) - W, 48-16
2013 vs Arkansas (29 attempts) - W, 31-27
2012 vs North Texas (26 attempts) - W, 41-14
2012 vs Auburn (27 attempts) - W, 12-10
2012 vs Towson (26 attempts) - W, 38-22
2012 @ Florida (25 attempts) - L, 14-6
2012 vs South Carolina (25 attempts) - W, 23-21
2012 @ Texas A&M (29 attempts) - W, 24-19
2012 vs Alabama (36 attempts) - L, 21-17
2012 vs Miss St (30 attempts) - W, 37-17
2012 vs Ole Miss (38 attempts) - W, 41-35
2012 @ Arkansas (29 attempts) - W, 20-13
2011 @ Miss St (27 attempts) - W, 19-6
2011 @ West Virginia (28 attempts) - W, 47-21
2011 vs Arkansas (29 attempts) - W, 41-17
2010 vs Tennessee (33 attempts) - W, 16-14
2010 vs Auburn (30 attempts) - L, 24-17
2010 @ Arkansas (29 attempts) - L, 31-23

Record in games with 16-24 pass attempts - 32-5 (.865 win pct)

Take away? LSU has had it's most success since 2010 when passing under 25 times, a total of 37-6 when under 25 pass attempts (.860). We are 4-5 when we throw the ball 30+ times since 2010.

Get used to it. The formula works, people.

I think we do that too, minus the up-tempo, barring that the Auburn offense continues to stall and keeps our defense off the field themselves.

I think the goal, especially in the 2nd half, will be to keep our defense off the field as much as possible thus continuing to run the ball and drain the clock and only passing in dire situations. Obviously, you'll hear a lot of grumbling from the fans/rant by doing so though.
