LSU will have very good depth on the D-Line for the first time in a while

Dandy Don's is doing a series of the 17 things revealed about the LSU team in the past two weeks.
The take on the defensive line:
#11 was K’Lavon Chaisson being able to provide relief in Arden's absence. #12 was about Rashard Lawrence.
Three man rotation. NOBODY gets worn out!!!

The take on the defensive line:
quote:
13. There’s a ton of depth and talent up front, literally: Building depth has been an ongoing process on the defensive line since Ed Orgeron joined the staff in 2015 as D-line coach, but this season seems to be the first season when the Tigers will reap the benefits of this focus. It’s been said that LSU is very comfortable with a three-man rotation up front, which includes four seniors – LaCouture, Greg Gilmore in the middle, and veterans Frank Herron and Deondre Clark as backups on the ends. Ed Alexander adds quality depth at the nose, giving LSU the deepest D-line its had in a while.

14. Deep defensive line could get even deeper: Massive defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin from my hometown of Lafayette has reportedly slimmed down from his 380-pound zenith and would be a major addition to an already stacked defensive line. The problem is that he has yet to be cleared by the NCAA and can’t even practice yet. Orgeron has stated that Shelvin and the school have done all they can and are in a holding pattern. Stay tuned, we should be hearing something soon.

I agree with you. First time since 2012 we have the talent and depth to dominate offensive lines. Should be fun to watch.

What seemed to have been a major problem will now be a major positive for this team. Our defense will be nasty book it.

If you include EDGE players in the DL group, this may be the best DL LSU has fielded since '11.
Ed Alexander is going to surprise people as a run-plugging NT. Fans might not notice, but SEC coaches definitely will. Don't be surprised to see Gilmore getting fewer than 50% snaps, even if he is a starter.
LaCouture has been solid since his freshman season. If his knee strength has actually improved, as his doctors have said, he will have a solid year. Herron will be effective with his quick first step on passing downs. Rashard Lawrence was one of the huge recruiting wins over 'Bama, and Ohio St. He is rumored to be living up to his billing. LSU is in good shape at DE.
At EDGE, Key is making waves as a potential #1 NFL pick. Chaisson is being billed as a sequel to Key. If LSU can manage to put two elite pass rushers on the field, 3rd and 6+ will be an absolute nightmare for offenses.
This defense is going to be fun to watch.

Why can't we have good depth on both lines at the same time? I would rather have depth on defense though.

Two things that has held back LSU from getting to the Playoffs:
1. QB play
2. Dominant Defensive line/depth
I hate to do this, but where is the strength of the great Alabama defenses? Front 7.
We just may return to the glory days with this kind of depth and talent.

Gilmore will have his breakout season finally. You can count on that. He's stronger faster and motivated. He looks really good.
