Blue and Hilliard still on pace.

Season total

Alfred Blue - 270 yds (needs to average 82 ypg for rest of regular season)
Kenny Hilliard - 303 yds (needs to average 78 ypg for rest of regular season)
Michael Ford - 98 yds

Original post

Last year LSU had two(Ware and Ford) who went over 700 and a third (Blue) who went over 500, but none eclipsed 1,000yds. This year, two will crack 1000 yds because:

- LSU's schedule, while still daunting, is not nearly as tough as last year's
- We now have a passing game that will not allow opposing defenses to stack 8 in the box
- The QB will not be running the ball (unless it's a backup QB for mop-up duty or change of pace)
- The O-line will be incredible, and the FB is a beast
- The defense will force alot of 3 and outs, meaning more touches for LSU's offense.

No,Because the carries will be distributed between six backs, That's right six.

I disagree.

We need to be able to throw the ball down the stretch, and I would hope we throw a good bit more this year regardless of situation or score.

I want a 3500 yard; 70% completion; 15/1 td/int passer. Give me that and 2500 yard rushing by committee and I call it over for the rest of the nation!

Granted, last year LSU only threw the ball 279 times compared to 591 rushing attempts, and there will definitely be more passing this year, but 75 of those rushes were by Jefferson and, with a better offense, I believe the total number of plays will also increase, which means that the number of running plays aren't likely to drop off, even with an improved passing attack.

Don't get me wrong. I would love two 1000 yard rushers. I just want to throw the ball more to better prepare ourselves should the running game ever struggle.

I think one back will have over 1,000 yds.
Take your pick which one.
And 3 to 4 others with 500 plus yds.
That would be fine with me.

One 1000 yard rusher, probably. Two, I just don't see that happening. Carries will be shared by 6 backs, and a more apt passing game will take many first down running plays away.

You need to temper your expectations

Maybe so. We'll see. Looking at 2007 numbers with the receiving corps that LSU had and Matt Flynn at QB, they still had more rushing attempts (612)then they did in 2011. This despite throwing 442 times for over 3,000 yds.

Jesus, I forgot that they had over 6,000 yds of total offense that year! If this team meets expectations and similar numbers...DAYUM!

I like the way we are using fresh legs and rotating the running backs. Makes it really hard on the defense to get the timing down of any one back.

I'll take 5 guys with 500 yards+ each right now. That'll mean no one guy can be keyed on by the defense, and all of our backs will be fresh for game 14.

If you count Jefferson, they split carries between 6 backs last year. Count the end-arounds to Shep and a few carries to Gore and there were 8.

It's a longshot, but I really hope to see it happen to make the statement to recruits that they can be part of a stable of backs, have more left in the tank heading into the NFL, and STILL be a 1,000yd rusher at LSU.

I think Miles would like 2 backs to take charge and see the majority of playing time.

I also think Miles has a tendency to favor those backs that show a more physical approach to the running game.

For these reasons, I could see a Dalton and James type of situation developing over the course of the season. Also, when Hester started '07 at TB and received the bulk of the carries early, I honestly thought Miles was saving his backs, and not giving away his gameplans for the more difficult games ahead. Boy, was I wrong!

I remember watching Stevan Ridley in his first extensive action and saying, "This kid needs the ball more." Even when people were whining about KW, I wanted to see Ridley. And Scott ended up being the heir apparent.

So, to sum up, yes, we have 6 backs, and Hill sounds like he won't be denied, but given Miles' history of handling backs, 2 1000 yard rushers is not out of the question, IMO. Although, injuries will surely play a part.

Areed. I could see, Ware-Ford or Hilliard-Blue or any number of combinations.

I'm going with Hilliard and Blue.
