Take one play for example.

Chark breaks the huddle, then races to his designated spot on the wide side of the field, along the left sideline.

One accel-decel.

A shift is called. Tackles swap places, running backs become wideouts and Chark runs some 25 yards to the opposite side of the ball, positioning himself in a slot receiver spot.

Two accel-decels.

A second shift unfurls. Tackles switch back, a tight end becomes a slot receiver and Chark returns to his original spot to the far left of the field, near the sideline.

Three accel-decels.

By this time, the play clock is down to 8 seconds. The snap must be coming, right? Not before Chark motions behind the line of scrimmage as the decoy on a fake jet sweep.

Four accel-decels.

The ball is snapped, and there goes Chark, turning up the field and finally crossing the line of scrimmage after running more than 60 yards behind it in a span of 15 seconds.

Tired yet?

Great. I hope we can execute this consistently, considering we had play clock troubles just lining up in a simple I formation under Miles.

Well, "little Nicky" may not be able to load the box like in the past.

A real offense will be fun to see. The defense will actually have to defend. The offense was playing defense under les

Just hope we don't get any offensive in motion penalities coming with all that movement.

Could you imagine an assistant explaining this play to Les?

Key word for those delay of game penalties: Miles.

Yeah I often thought nick enjoyed lsu week because he used the same defensive scheme every year and never had to change it against les miles offense. Guess nick may have to use those 4 extra days to study game film now.

One of the complaints of past tiger offense was there was no pre-snap communication between QB and receivers.

Seems like they are addressing this issue.

All the shifting looks pretty until you play against a smart defense as one Bama dlineman said. We knew when it was a run or pass.

I think every DC had a little bit of a breather when it came to game prep vs. LSU under Miles. Stopping LSU was one thing. But prepping for what was coming probably wasn't all that difficult.

I can remember watching the Ark/Miss. St. game from 2014 where the broadcasters were talking about a discussion they had with the, then, Miss. St. DC about prepping for Arkansans power rushing attack. The DC compared Ark to LSU saying "with LSU you know what you are going to get", but while Ark wants to run the ball right at you as well, they get creative (misdirection, etc) in how they do it."

You don't shift to look pretty. You use shifts and motion to (A) create favorable matchups and (b) hopefully force the defense to kind of tip their hand before the snap.

Watch the Saints on Sundays. They formation teams to death. The same play might be run out of 4 different formations. They do it to create great one-on-one matchups.

Under Les LSU was very predictable with their formations and personnel. If 20,000 people in the stands knew what the play was going to be before the snap, I'm certain the defense knew as well. Hell, there were many times the WRs didn't even go into the huddle. They just lined up in the same spot 4 plays in a row

I don't think people realize how much practice all these shifts give our offense. The more work they put in or thinking they have to do will make the game day seem easy.

They will just run the play, if it works it works if not on to the next. They will not have time to think negetive thoughts, they will be consumed with the next responsibility. It's pressure pressure pressure while at practice so when you perform in the game it's routine and the pressure is now on that defense who hasn't seen this before, the mistakes will switch to the defense while the offense takes advantage of every single mistake or player who is having trouble, there's your Waldo! Not necessarily the slowest guy or smallest guy but the guy struggling to keep up. May be multiple guys or an entire defense.

This will be fun.... TBC....

Now think of August when we will be conditioned to run this for 4 quarters, and opposing defenses will be dying in the second half from trying to mirror us.
