I am new to this board, so I am not sure if there has ever been such a topic brought up. The other night I was thinking, who was the bigger screw up, Tyrann Mathieu or Ryan Perrilloux? Both of these guys had all the potential in the world and they blew it.

Also, I believe Russell Shepard was the biggest unused talent LSU has ever had. I sure would have like to seen him get more touches.

Your thoughts?

How is this post any different from other "negative" posts on here?? Personally don't see anything wrong with the question. If any of you "board patrollers" or "German identifiers" don't like the post, hit the back button and don't go back to it.

what about all 5 star players that never lived up to expectations?
Here's a list from 2009:
- Devon Kenard, 5 star DE for USC finished his sr season with less than 30 tackles, averaging 3 a game.
- Jaccobi McDaniel, 5 Star DT for Fla State - before injury was averaging less than 2 tackles / game.
- Janzen Jackson, 5 star DB lucky to not be in jail. Never panned out - bust.
- Garrett Gilbert, 5 star QB, bust.
- Patrick Hall, 5 star DB, USC, bust.
- Gary Brown, 5 star DT, Florida, arrested, bust.
- Chris Davenport, 5 star DL/OL, LSU. Bust.
- Greg Reid, DB, FSU - bust / kicked off team.
- Braden Smith, DB, GA - averages 2 tackles a game
- Dorian Bell, LB, Ohio State - Bust now plays for Duquesne

SO.....10 of 32 rivals 5 star recruits from 2009 or roughly 30% are busts. That's life. Why should LSU differ from that? Move on - we're not any more special than any other program...

I bet your percentage would be above 50%

I would go with the 5 star who never played one meaningful snap, has one year of eligibility remaining, and likely will not get a meaningful snap next year either.

Wait.....Garrett Gilbert is a starting QB for SMU. They did go to a bowl.....which is big for SMU.

He was just a bust at Texas!

If your argument is that Les is worse than other elite coaches, let's look at talent that was at LSU prior to les at skill postions for 4/5 star recruits - there were 12 recruits and I count 7 that lived up to expectations, which is only a 58% success rate. Miles is around 50% by my count. Not great, but certainly in the same tier as Saban when he was here.......

2002
QB Lester Ricard - bust
RB Justin Vincent - had a few good games, but extremely inconsistent.
WR Skyler Green - not a bust

33% success rate.

2003
QB - Matt Flynn
QB - Jamarcus Russel
WR - Dwayne Bowe
WR - Craig Davis
RB - Barrington Edwards - bust
WR - Amp Hill - bust
RB Ally Broussard - bust

60% success rate

2004
WR - X carter - horrific bust
WR - Early Doucet
WR - Lavelle Hawkins - bust

33% success rate

Now compared to Les' first 3 years:
2004
RJ Jackson - bust
Steve Korte - bust
Perrilloux - bust
0% success rate

2005
Ricky Dixon - bust
Chris Mitchell - bust
Jared Mitchell - bust
Richard Murphy
Charles Scott
Keiland Williams

66% success rate

2006
D Byrd
Jarrett Lee - on the fence, never got the chance and he did make an NFL training camp.
Stevan Ridley
T Tolliver
(D Lo Benton doesn't count because he transferred of his own volition)

75% success rate if you count Lee as a bust, 87.5% if you don't.

total = 13 of which 6 worked out if you exclude Lee from that total, and one of the 13 was Korte who was never going to be a star at FB. So really you end up at 50%
