What's the deal with this. Heard this on another board.

most teams always oversign because a couple recruits usually don't qualify academically... all of LSU's happened to qualify

Never heard of a team over signing before. Always wondered why teams can sign over 25 players a year even though you can only have 85 players on scholarship. Seems like an extremely shady thing to do.

Then you don't follow recruiting AT ALL.

When there are recruits with the strong possiblity of being academic casualties in your recruiting class, oversigning often makes sense. The problem arises when more than 25 of them qualify. You can only have 25 scholarships per year occupied by those signees, no matter how many sign LOI's.

It's like the airlines selling more tickets than seats on the plane. Some won't show and others will agree to be bumped for vouchers (I did for a $200 voucher).
Some recruits won't qualify, some won't pass physicals, etc, and some simply won't have what it takes to make it in FBS especially in the SEC.

Yet the Big Ten still does it. Because they are fricking hypocrites. Sorry, I'm just really irritated by Big Ten homers right now. Michigan signed 27 kids this year, yet mgoblog is writing articles about what a POS Miles is. Hi, pot. It's me, kettle.

That's cause Michigan sucks.

It was a piece of shite move by Miles. I don't think you'll find many other situations where a kid signs and is academically eligible and is given the boot after he's moved into his dorm a couple of days before practice starts.

The Pac-10, Big East, and ACC seem to be all over the place
Looks like GT can't get dick for people to qualify. Averaging 19.66 signees over the last 9 years. Only Wake Forest, Stanford, and Northwestern signed less

Why didn't you just keep reading that thread on the other board then and find out what the deal was?

I think Miami also just cut a kid to get Henderson.

When did any of those teams tell a qualified incoming recruit days before practice started that he doesn't have a scholarship ? You may be right but I can't recall a situation any time recently where a team did that.
