Johnny Jones has a team that on any given day can hang with the best teams in the country. His team fails miserably in games they're supposed to win. The future of LSU men's basketball will be bleak if he remains the coach. Johnny obviously can't motivate his team and may lack the coaching skills at this level.

Johnny's demise will hopefully stop Dale Brown & Collis Temple Jr. from ever having any input into the basketball program again.

Mentioned something like this in another post last night. Just like Bama did with Anthony Grant. I thought that Jones was an okay hire and thought that since he played at LSU that he would really be energetic and enthusiastic and at least an average X's and O's coach. Turns out to simply not be the case so as I mentioned earlier, we have failed with the mellow coaches like Trent and Jones. Time to get a real motivator, salesman type of coach with at least a somewhat knowledge of simple offensive plays and defense and can teach the young men on how to make free throws. I believe Grant was only at Bama for 3 years before they cut bait. Dont see why LSU has to continue with this if the season continues to go downhill and as far as money we all know that JBE and King are both just blowing hot air. Like the state of Louisiana is going to allow a million dollar industry of LSU college football go down the drain. The money is there for an above average basketball coach.

Jones is fairly energetic and is not old as far as college BB coaches go.

He was there 6 seasons. Thing was, he actually won his conference all 3 years at VCU. Johnny Jones won it zero times at UNT during his ten years there.

Most LSU fans wanted Grant at the time instead of Trent.

The "good ole boy" system at LSU needs to be stopped. Dale & Collis were shutout when Alleva hired Trent over Butch....Alleva hiring Johnny was a makeup call to Dale & Collis.

Listen, I am by no means defending Johnny after yesterday but I just want to correct something. I have read this 3 different times now that Johnny never once the conference at UNT. He won it twice.

now this is just dead wrong. Jones looks basically asleep on the sidelines.

Even if you're a Jones supporter, you can't say he's "fairly energetic." It's just plainly evident that it's not true.

LOL'D on this one as well. I've seen funeral directors with more energy than Jones on the sidelines. I mean I apprecriate his calmness under pressure but I would prefer to see him lose his shite every once and a while and get thrown out like Cal.

That's funny because I remember the Dale Brown era very similarly.

I've always been wary of this influence. CT2 was able to help the program when he was able to package his sons with some talented friends to help LSU have some good teams. And his sons both turned out to be good and productive players hear.

But after they were and gone, and he really had no more tangible means of helping the program, he still seemed to set himself up as a guru on top of the hill that LSU had to come to for advice on an matter of importance regarding hoops.

And to think Dale didn't have his ear, I think would be short-sighted.

Having said all that, I would love to be right here right now saying, "sorry Dale and Collis, you were right all along, Johnny was the right choice all this time".

I'd much rather be wrong than to have seen that performance the last two games that effectively ended our tournament hopes barring some miraculous rally.

He won zero regular season championships and 2 tournament championships. Grant won the regular season championship all 3 years at vcu and the tournament twice.

The whole dept needs a change towards the future. What is Aleva's 10 year plan for the basketball team? Does he even have one. Ask him. Football is a dumpster fire other than empty hype. "Next year.."

Bama has processed LSU and Aleva. Time for a young fighter.

Mike White would've been a nice hire. UF beat us to him. Maybe we could still land him with his local ties.

I'm a season ticket holder and I just hope Alleva makes a move while LSU basketball is still relevant and doesn't let it completely go back to the cellar. There's still some juice here right now to use. Jones has brought in some good talent albeit under some lucky circumstances (Martin from BR, Mickeys brother on the football team, Simmons godfather on staff, Blakeney friends with Simmons) but it's clear as day he can't X and O. He killed the team by going to Zone against Bama they can't play it at all and they struggle against Zones. His teams don't value the basketball and lack fundamentals. Jones also schedules extremely poor which shows in LSU's RPI.
