I actually looked at both links you provided, but it had already evolved into a CF bashing thread.

You and O have obviously never done CrossFit for any period of time. It will kick your arse and get you in the best shape of your life. I'm almost 40 and squat 400 and deadlift 500. I was never that strong in college. I can run a 5k in around 20 min without training. You haters just suck.

ummm no. they do a few of the same exercises. You can't possibly argue that some of the crossfit "innovations" like ghd situps and sumo dl high pulls have any useful application in sports medicine.

Crossfit does some very good things but they need serious quality control of their coaches and need to get rid of the meathead mentality of "more calories burned in a hour is better no matter what". Also the only purpose incorporating crap like handstand walking is to make it look like more of a "sport". they have no application in real life.

a few?

all the base lifts and exercises that LSU does can be found in any cross fit class.

Im not trying to make it a pissing contest, but the exercises that are in CF are not some made up exercises. The competition format makes it different, but the exercises are the same.

no clue where this comes from. You should check out some classes, honestly. If you don't like it at least you can't post made up shite about it.

there are several crossfit specific exercises that are not used anywhere in sports medicine. The GHD situp is the prime example. They took a machine made for completely different muscle groups and repurposed it just make a harder ab workout. The risk/reward of their rationalization is simply not there. Repetitive ghd situps risk damage to the lower lumber, and are not the most efficient way to improve abdominal strength, but it looks cool, and it's tiring, so they are a mainstay at most boxes

I don't understand all the hate for Crossfit. I started about 3 months ago and I'm in the best shape of my life. Who gives cares how someone else gets in shape? The coach at my box has dedicated his life to working out and Crossfit. Hes quick to correct bad form and I would never have made the strides that I have made without a structured workout like Crossfit. Its been "life changing" for me.

The hate for Crossfit has almost nothing to do with the program and almost everything to do with the dredges of society that make up its main customer base. I'm sure great people do crossfit, but dear god the vast majority of people who do it are insufferable. The constant "Crossfit is life" mantra that I get on social media and every time I go home is horrifying. We get it, you like to work out. Please shut up. That and I'm biased because it's terrible for young/developing athletes and younger siblings are also obsessed with it

I enjoy it, if I would do a better job of not eating absolute garbage I would perform better, to each his own,

The guy that owns and coaches at our gun finished third yesterday in the masters comp, pretty damn impressive

Why is it bad for young, developing athletes?

I won't lie, I haven't done super extensive research. But I attended a siblings competition an noticed that they were rushing through these massive lifts for time and with really bad form. So I googled when j got home and found several articles suggesting that CF shouldn't be used on HS athletes for the above reasons. That the type of "max weight", timed, competition can be very bad for athletes still growing into their bodies

Competitions are a tad over the top IMO, not the elite level ones, but the everyday crossfit warrior ones....about 75% of the participants should not be there doing the high volume heavy lifts.

The elite guys generally have years and years of oly lift training and generally advanced instruction. Not so with the average crossfitter, myself included. Practicing a snatch three times a month does not qualify one to go to a competition and have some 21/15/9 for time of 95 lb snatches

I am friends on social media with a shitload of other Crossfit people and none of it is like you say.

You hate it because it makes you feel like a fat frick.

You don't get it. The point is you have cardiovascular fitness across activities without training full time for any one activity. Bigorangewave is intellectually challenged apparently.
