History has shown that since the NCAA tourney expanded to 64 teams if LSU gets through the first round of the NCAA tournament they will usually make it to the Sweet 16 or Final Four. They seldom lose in round 2, but have been one and done too many times.

To be fair 2009 was a really successful tourney run when taken in context. Played probably 2 of the best 4 teams in the tourney and went 1-1. Beat a butler team that made the finals the next two years with pretty much the same players, and was the only team to play with UNC for a full 40 minutes

2009 definitely should have been a 4 to 6 seed, then who knows what may have happened.

We got taken to the shed with that 8-seed. As did Butler with the 9. I definitely think sweet 16 was our floor as a 4-6 seed like we should have been. But then again anything can happen in the tournament.

So often it is about matchups. You also cannot have a key player have a real bad off night or sit long stretches due to foul trouble. Cannot afford cheap senseless fouls.

Don't see us beating a 1 seed.

RPI was in the low 30's, and AP had them in "others receiving votes." That's 8-seed material.

They were 13-1 in conference before losing final 2 in regular season, then beat Kentucky in the tournament quarterfinal before losing to State. That's a pretty impressive 2 months. Guess the two late season losses trumped the long winning streak, but as SEC champs deserved more respect than 8 seed.

The AP poll was not relevant, but they were 21 in last poll.

Nothing in the past will directly affect what this team will do.

That's why they call it an upset my friend. It's the tourney, crazy things happen every year.

How in the hell did LSU get stuck playing that very good 2009 UNC team when they were a 4 seed that year?

That 2009 team only beat 2 teams all year that made the NCAAT (Tenn. and MSU). It would have been only 1 team had State not surprising won the SECT. Should they have been better than an 8 seed? Maybe, but not significantly better.

Despite the illogical losses to AU, MSU, and Mizzou, there is a reason LSU is a 9 seed. This year's team is 6-1 against the NCAAT field.
