Bruce Pearl would have already turned LSU's program around with what he had to work with (and who's to say he wouldn't have captured Ben Simmons).

Avery Johnson would have loved to have come back home and coached for LSU. His locker room speeches are epic (just ask Sean Payton and the 2009 Saints).

Chaka Smart? Okay, maybe LSU isn't high profile enough to capture a Chaka Smart, but we certainly could have sent Shaq and Dale to try and lure him in.

Bruce Pearl has been awful at Auburn, who's to say he would have been better at LSU?

1. During our search Avery was still coaching in the NBA, so he was not realistic.

2. Pearl still had the show cause on him during our search----another unrealistic candidate.

Did you see last year's Auburn-LSU game in Nashville?

That game alone shows me Bruce Pearl is a better coach than CJJ.

Leaving only a person who doesn't exist from the OP's list.

Good stuff.

Here's an article with the coaching changes the year JJ was hired to kind of give perspective on who was out there and who landed where.

LINK

FWIW, here's what it said about the Jones hire:

quote:

LSU passed over Jones last time when the Tigers hired Johnson. They needed to go with someone familiar with the landscape -- and Jones played at LSU in the early 1980s and also coached under Dale Brown. He's led North Texas to 20-plus wins in five of the past six years. This is the right move.

At least he didn't have Steve Kerr or Phil Jackson on the candidate list.

I don't disagree that LSU could have made better hires but saying

quote:

Bruce Pearl would have already turned LSU's program around

or

quote:

very Johnson would have loved to have come back home and coached for LSU

is speaking in nothing but pure speculation
