Is there anyone that has lived in the UK during football season?

Did you get to watch ANY LSU games? How did you do it? Does it play on TV? Cable? Satellite? Does geauxzone work there?

I know that there are licensing restrictions for American programming while abroad and I know ESPN3 doesn't really work unless you can get some kind of IP blocker. Has anyone been able to watch all LSU games on their TV while in Europe.

on a television? I only want to use that as a last resort. Is there a Roku, googletv, appletv, or other device that will let me get an app to watch on my tv?

I'm studying abroad in Switzerland right now and I bought a subscription to ESPN Player (the College Pass). I was able to watch all the March Madness games, even though they weren't broadcasted by ESPN.

Although I'm not sure about football, but I imagine it would work the same way.

Slingbox works ok but your best bet is to find someone who gets the channel 'espn America'. It's shows most games. Also they have something called 'espn player' that works on the Internet and covers many games not on the tv station.

Geaux zone works but only shows like one live football game.

It's really annoying to get games over here. Also you end up having to watch them until 3am due to time difference. It can be done though.

There are some sports bars in London that will show games but if it's a late game you need approx 20 people to ensure they will let you stay until 3am.

When /why are you coming over?

ptrack29, where are you located in Switzerland?

Tigershatebama, I get ESPN America and just about every LSU football game was on live this past season. The ones that weren't on live were broadcast sometime the next day. I also have the Slingbox HD and it works very well. It's all dependent on the upload speed at the location of the Slingbox and the download speed where you are watching.

I live in the UK, and have not missed watching a live LSU game in over 5 years...here is how you do it...

First, you have to be prepared to stay up late as obviously any 7pm kickoffs start at 1am local time in Britain.

But you can get every non-CBS game from a subscription to the online service, ESPN Player ( ESPN Player for UK it's about £80 I think)...(basically it's espn3 for europe, but they just run it on a pay for subscription).

There is also a TV station as part of the ESPN package called ESPN America ESPN America TV and they show all the best college games live every weekend - so the big LSU games you can get in HD on your TV. (Sky satellite channel 430).

Now, for the CBS games, the Slingbox is the best way to go if you can find someone in the US to let you access theirs. (or set one up at your parents/family's house like I have done). Many of the big CBS games get shown on ESPN America (even though it's an ESPN station, they buy the 2.30pm CBS game because it's usually one of the biggest games of the weekend).

If you cant get it that way, you could try to trick your IP to a US one and see if you can log into CBS.com as they show the live games on their site, but they black it out internationally.

Geauxzone does not work for live video for football over here, although you can get all the audio that way.

If you have any other questions let me know on stormbell at aol dot com.

I moved to Scotland in September and enjoyed the season. I watched most of the game on Sky TV, ESPN America. There are times when you have to watch at 1 in the morning to see live or you can DVR it. Additionally they rerun most of the college games on Sunday. When the game was not on sky which was only the games against smaller schools (1 or 2) I used JustinTV.
I did not miss a game the whole season. My neighbour is from Lafayette and our families got together for LSU and Saints games. We had fun making gumbo, jambalaya and other things that reminded us of home…
Another option is to put a slingbox on friends TV back in the states or Louisiana. I am thinking of placing one on my parents TV in New Orleans even though I never relay needed it, I just like a lot of back up options….
Where are you moving to? I will give you any tips if needed…..

Good luck

Thanks everyone for all the help. I'm in the Air Force and moving to Lakenheath in August for 3 years. I almost picked up a slingbox last weekend to leave at my parents house, but saw some poor reviews if the internet isn't fast. I'm not sure the quality of internet because I think that I'm moving to a rural area.

If I'm not using that day (which I typically don) I'll give you my sling box login and you can watch my tv. Stalk me closer to the season.

If you are in the Air Force you will get AFN. Like someone said earlier you will have to stay up for odd kickoff times, but AFN has improved a lot since I was stationed in Germany for four years. I was in Qatar in 2007, and I saw every LSU game except the Tulane game. AFN has four different channels and three of them show football on Saturday and Sunday. You'll be five hours ahead of EST, so adjust your body clock accordingly! Enjoy England, you'll have a blast. F-15Es are at Lakenheath, what's your AFSC?

If you are at Lakenheath - I'm just up the road in Norwich. (about a 45 min drive), we should get together for some beers and gumbo for one of the games...let me know if you are interested.

I'm surprised there are so many people in the UK trying to watch LSU football.

LSU fans should be more organised. UF has an entire group that get together and watch games in bars and stuff.

Lets get a UK alum group going then...we can meet in London once or twice a season to watch games - I'd be down for that...

That could be a lot of fun. I would be willing to come down from Aberdeen for a game.

Don't know the best way to go about this - if we could get at least 10 people interested than we could make it work...how do we advertise it though? Anyone got any suggestions?

I guess we try and do something like this? London Gator Club

I'm not alum, just have links to Lousiana and got into LSU from there.

I think a group would be good. It would be interesting to see how many people come out of the woodwork. If we had enough we can try and get one of the sports bars to host us.

I think an alumni of LSU can contact the university and set up the official 'UK LSU Alumni Group'. I'd looked into getting some people together before but as I didn't attend LSU I can't really start an alumni group! Once you are official I think LSU website can link to you. Other than that rely on google and TD!

Thanks LSU London - agreed, no need to make it something only for alum, any LSU (or SEC) fans and peeps from Louisiana would be more than welcome.

I'll look into setting it up with LSU as well, since I am an alum.
