LSU defenders love Dave Aranda's 'now you see it, now you don't' defensive philosophy

quote:

"Just tell people to get ready for guys flying around making a bunch of plays, play after play," Beckwith said Friday after the Tigers' second preseason practice. "It's a lot of fun."

quote:

"We can move around a lot and make a lot of plays from a lot of positions," LSU senior defensive end Christian LaCouture said after Saturday morning's practice. When you come up to the line, they (the offense) don't know where you are."

quote:

"Quarterbacks won't know what's coming and where it's coming from," White said.

quote:

Added Toliver, "We disguise everything. I wouldn't want to be a quarterback playing us. He won't know what he'll see from us until the play starts and by then it's too late."

Aranda Rights

quote:

"You have the right to remain confused. Anything you incorrectly guess can and will be used against you when the ball is snapped. You have the right to call a timeout. If you cannot afford to call a time out, I suggest you throw the ball in the stands."

LOVE IT!

LSU's combined 56 sacks total of the last three years (17 last year, 20 in 2014, 19 in 2013) is the worst three-year performance since the school began tracking sacks in 1979.

we had 34 sacks last year... what am I missing?

O's immediate impact and overall improvement was well-documented.

2015 = 34
2014 = 19
2013 = 27

I love reading all about that. This is what makes an LSU defense great. That read and react shite Steele had us doing turned our defense into swiss cheese with guys playing out of position, WRs and TEs frequently getting open, and QBs having all the time in the world to make a play.

You know you're f**ked when half your defense is confused on where to be before the snap

We gave up so many TDs because players didnt who to guard and where to be..... shite was ridiculous seeing a guy from the opposing team wide open and our closest player being 10 yds away.

I think we're going to see a lot of big plays against us in the running game. Aranda's strategy - to move guys around a lot before the snap - is likely to cause mixups. I hope that the players can master it by the time we hit the meat of our schedule, but we're probably going to have to have patience with it.

I disagree. Moving players will actually benefit the defense. Offensive linemen will get their blocking assignments confused and cause spillage into the backfield. This system should and I repeat should, help our run defense

We probably won't see a ton of movement this season. There's too much to learn about his defense in one offseason so they'll be playing a lot of base coverages and standard blitzes.

That seems to be the opposite of what the players are saying. Its not that hard, players are mostly playing assignment football, and fewer gaps...like linemen have only one gap, and they are tackling on their way to the QB, if I'm reading everything right...

Yeah, I'd read that, too. The scheme is complex, but the individual assignments are easier, one gap. Once they line up, they're ready to go with their assignment, instead of lining up, then making a read after the ball is snapped.

I'm looking forward to watching the replay almost as much as watching the game, just to watch how his defense works.

Can't wait to see this defense in action. It's what I'm most excited about this season. I'm dying for a dominant defense again.
