We've seen the performances of Malone, Robinson and Epps in several games the Tigers played. Just wondering who eventually will be the most effective big man besides Simmons in the next games versus SEC opponents. Malone seems to be hitting his ceiling and will be sitting on the bench the most. Robinson has shown improvement from last season and offers big body in the middle, but has not became the force around the rim yet. Epps seems to be the better option among the three and has the speed and athleticism to be effective in up-tempo style Coach Jones likes to play. A lot of people are hoping for Victor to be the best option for the big man next to Simmons, but I've never seen him playing or practicing with the team. Really like to hear your observation and opinion about our big men!
Thanks and

If victor doesn't pan out then we may be in for a disappointing season.

No one really knows what victor is going to bring when he starts playing. We're hopeful he'll rebound, defend the rim, and score around the basket. Robinson is really our only true back to the basket scorer, but he's shaky at best. I like epps a lot because he can run, he's athletic, and can hit an occasional perimeter shot. He's a little light in the pants against other teams big guys though. I have no idea why Malone plays

IMO, Robinson could benefit from shedding another 10-12 pounds. He's improved a lot since last year, but still seems a little bit too slow and heavy on his feet to fulfill his potential with regard to rebounding and defense. He doesn't seem to be able to use his size advantage to dominate offensively either, so the tradeoff would be a net positive, IMO.

That said, he looks a lot better this year and I'm optimistic he'll be a quality starter before his time at LSU is up.

Epps is extremely athletic, but looks like he could benefit from adding an extra 8-10 pounds. He should continue to improve, but at his build is more of a tall wing who has the ability to finish around the rim than a traditional "big".

I haven't seen Victor play, but from what I've heard and read, if accurate, would lead me to believe his style of play would best meet the needs of what this team is currently lacking. Simmons needs help rebounding, and no one on the team has been an effective rim protector that would make penetrating guards & forwards think twice about going up with it near the basket.

We don't necessarily need him to be Jordan Mickey (although it would be nice), but if we can't at least contest layups well enough to get a stop here and there it will be a long season, and we'll see more games where we'll have no choice but to try to win with tempo in a shootout, and just hope we can outrun our opponent.

Robinson and epps will split time until victor shows up. Robinson does better against a dominate big man and epps seems to excell when he is not being intimdated by size.

Darcy plays because he can commit five fouls, and the hope would be that he fouls hard enough to give the opponent something to think about when driving.

Obviously, if you've got guys who can actually defend in the paint, you won't need to rely on such a strategy. That said, there can be value in a hard foul. Basketball is all about confidence, and if you can prevent a scorer from going to the basket it can disrupt the other aspects of his offensive game.

Not everyone has the toughness to penetrate fearlessly knowing he's more than likely going to be hit hard by a much bigger guy.

Outside of that though, he is what he is. If he was effective at setting screens he wouldn't be such a liability on offense. But he seems to get called for moving screens more than he should. Turnovers, especially away from the ball, can destroy a team's momentum, especially an up-and-down team that relies heavily on transition.

Malone and Elberts never got out of their sweats last game. This needs to happen more. They need to turn their sweats in and give them to another candidate....Epps will contribute this year. From what I've seen of Victor at practice he will be a nice physical presence to play D and rebound. He's not a dbl digit scorer by any means.

Didn't Epps have a career high last game?

Realistically Victor is 6'7" 6'8" at best and about 210lbs. Coming out of high school he was rated among the best at his position. He will be counted on heavily. I think his stat sheet will be something along the lines of 8-9 points her game.....5-6 rebounds per game.

He's bigger than 210. He looks to be the same size as Mickey.

Well said. He can also give you a couple lazy points because some teams know he's not a scorer.

Anyone else think JJ should mix in a little more zone when Big Elbert is in?

Is he a defensive stopper type? I'm hoping we find someone that can be a force on D like this.

I think we're NIT bound, unless the hype for Simmons gets us in (and knowing how basketball focuses on celebrity, there's a good chance it will)

We're pinning a lot of hope on Victor, and I know nothing about him. But it seems to me that if he were as good as we all hope, he would have played a lot more at Arizona St (Arizona?), and that he wouldn't have been even considering transferring. Basically, if the kid is as good as we hope, he'd have already been an early entrant in the draft, not sitting out a year and waiting to play here.

People are def over hyping Victor. He will contribute but he won't be a difference maker down low. Like another poster said he may give you 8 and 5 a game. Just got to hope he can play a little D
