LSU Basketball starting lineup, season opinions, etc.

LSU basketball is set to begin the season on November 10. Figured I'd take the liberty of giving us a starting line-up to debate about with the season quickly approaching.
This team will definitely be guard heavy. It's hard to even give a real description of what Wade has done in a short amount of time. Amazing would be an understatement.
PG: Skylar Mays. Mays was has trimmed down a bit and is in the best shape of his career. he will be pushed heavily by freshman point guard Tremont Waters. Expect both to see a large amount of playing time with Skylar getting the start early in the season.
SG: Brandon Sampson: We all know Sampson has all the tools to be an All-SEC type wing player. His defense hopefully has improved as well as his shot selection. I look forward to seeing Sampson being a 14 PPG type player this fall.
SG: Randy Onwuasor: A true scorer from the wing position. Was on a bad Southern Utah team last year. He will soften the blow of losing Antonio Blakeney.
SF Jeremy Combs: Combs was injured last year most of the year at North Texas. He should be a 11-12 ppg 8-9 rebounds per game type player. Very scrappy and plays bigger than his size.
PF-C: Duop Reath: Reath will try and provide rim protection against tough SEC competition. Often in foul trouble last year and out of shape, word on the street is he is also in the best shape of his career.
First of the bench: Tremont Waters. I true scoring PG who will be given the green light at LSU. I look forward to watching him thrive in Wade's system.
Brandon Rachal: Rachal was the best senior in the state last year at the high school level. He can play the 2-3 spots and will be counted on heavily as a freshman.
Aaron Epps: Epps will be counted on to play some SF, PF, and even Center on a team that is really thin down low. He's a very unselfish player whom I'm hoping will have a standout senior campaign.
Wayde Sims: Sims is also in the best shape of his life and can play the 2-3 spots and even help down low. He's only 6'6" but has a knack for getting loose balls.
Mayan Kir: Another freshman that will be counted on to help down low. Still raw, but should improve quickly in Wade's system.
My outlook on the year is for LSU to be a much improved team winning 18-19 games and getting into the NIT and making a little noise there. Wade has been a recruiting machine since landing the job. This team will be 2 years away and should be loaded for a run to make noise in the NCAA tourney for 2019.

I agree, yet some think we will be the worst team in the SEC again somehow.

Judging from my one practice before the AU game.
PG - Waters
SG - Sampson
SF - Sims
PF - Epps
C - Reath
Wade talks Epps up a lot, I will be surprised if he is not a starter from day 1

Reath
Epps
Sampson
Mays
Waters
Combs isn't healthy yet, but could take over for Epps once he is. Wade likes the 2 ball handlers on the floor, so Mays and Waters make sense there, although it could be Mays and Onwuasor if Waters doesnt improve some aspects of his game, he's probably the most electric player we currently have though.
Alexander currently healing from injury as well IIRC. I wouldnt count on Combs or Alexander early on in the season. Rachal will play a bit IMO. Sims and Kiir as well. Kiir pretty much a necessity at that big man spot.

I see no way this team finishes last in the SEC. Just really lazy research and reporting by the media.

I don't think LSU finishes last, but I can understand why they were picked 14th to start the season. The SEC might be as deep and balanced as it has been in a while. Right now, objectively, there really isn't any team you can say LSU will absolutely be better than this season. That of course will change once play starts.
I think for Wade this year the title of "starter" will largely be irrelevant. I suspect he is going to play a lot of guys. Maybe a 10 man rotation. If I had to guess a starting line up I'd say:
Mays
Sampson
Onwassar
Epps
Reath.
Waters is going to play alot because I think he is too talented to keep off the court. They'll need to Combs to rebound, defend and score inside (once healthy). Edwards may be the only reliable outside shooter.
I think Wade's plan of attack will be to try to wear opponents out defensively with waves of bodies. They'll try to make up for a potential lack of 3 point shooting by attacking the rim and trying to pick up points at the FT line.

To finish last you generally have to have a group of players and staff that don't care. This roster is pretty bad but it will not be one that just goes through the motions.

I would expect the following to walk on the court to start the first game Nov 10:
Mays
Waters
Sampson
Epps
Reath
A scoring lineup will likely look like the following:
Waters
Sampson
Onwu
Epps
Reath
Wouldn't be surprised to see this starting lineup down the stretch in SEC play:
Waters
Sampson
Onwu
Combs
Reath
Mays
Waters
Sampson
Epps
Reath
A scoring lineup will likely look like the following:
Waters
Sampson
Onwu
Epps
Reath

Combs

Edwards definitely isn't the only reliable outside shooter. One thing LSU won't be short on this year is shooters. We are very short on big bodies.
Onwuasor, Sampson, Waters, Sims, Rachal, Mays even Epps all have the ability to stretch the defense.

Could be wrong, but it seems like Wade is high on Epps. Would be surprised if he's not in the starting lineup to start the season.

I agree and it is. Most of these guys are wannabe football guys biding their time and they don't really care about hoops and don't know all that much about the teams other than the one they are covering.
I'm with you, no way this team finishes last. They should not have last year but the accountability was so far gone by then that they had no shot at anything else.

17-19 wins, miss out on tourney, I would say that for every LSU basketball season ever.

If you did the research you would see it's very easy to pick us last. Fact is we were 2-16 last year and lost our best player to the NBA. We did not add any huge splash recruiting names really to our team for this year. Waters is the big one from the recruiting class but they arent going to give you major props for getting a Top 50 5'10 PG.
What Wade has done is cut a lot of the issues which made us bad last year and replace a lot of guys with folks who can actually contribute quality minutes as opposed to "OMG when is he getting off the floor" minutes.
The only teams I think you could logically put 14th instead of us is maybe Georgia or Tennessee. Georgia still returned Maten. Tennessee looks a bit lost though perhaps.
Some might say Ole Miss looks bad, but the fact is Kennedy ALWAYS has that team right around .500 in the SEC. So it's highly unlikely they tank this year. That's after 11 seasons too, his worst year was 7-9.
A reach may be South Carolina. They were awesome last year but just lost so much. Hard to see a Frank Martin team being dead last though, they just dont seem to have much talent this year though.
Auburn, Mississippi State, Alabama were young teams last year that return a lot of talent and add some more.
All of this being said, it's hard seeing the last place team in the SEC being any worse than 4-14. I could even see 5-13. A highly competitive 4-14/5-13 team.

That's a solid assessment. I think we win between 17-21 games regular season. Great season would be getting a play-in game, good season would be the NIT, and bad would be less than 17 wins.
We were historically bad last year defensively. If we are just 7-10 ppg better on defense we win 15-16 as opposed to 10. I think Wade's emphasis on defensive and overall conditioning and toughness will help improve our defensive productivity this year.

All great points and a good assessment of the outcome of this year IMO.
The media isnt going to give you many brownie points in the polls simply by cutting some roster fat (ER III, Hayward, Jenkins and Patterson) and adding some grad transfers (Combs, Onwuasor) and guys who will probably good in a year or two, not this year necessarily (at least how they see guys like Waters, Alexander, Rachal and Kiir).
Missouri is getting major props not just for the coaching change but adding some big names through recruiting who should have an immediate impact.

I think we are going to be really up tempo and pressure kind of team. we will be able to send waves of players into the game with there not being a lot of difference between the groups. I think since we lack front court players we don't really want to get into a slow grinding half court game.
I think we have a lot of shooters and we will be on fire some nights and win some games maybe we shouldn't, and also have nights where we are cold and lose.
One things is for certain, this team will give maximum effort every night and the coach wont stand there with a bewildered look on his face.

I hope you're right, but none of those guys (except for maybe Epps) have consitently shot it well from deep in college play. Certainly not enough to speak in absolutes that LSU will be a good three point shooting team.
Onwuasor was a great scorer at his level, but he shot 30% from 3.
Sampson was a 34% shooter; Mays - 33%; Waters and Rachal haven't played a college game yet. Epps has shot it well, but in limited attempts.

Confidence is key. Sims had a game last year where he made 4 (3) pointers against Vandy last year in an 82 second span going 5-7 from the 3 point line in that game. I think this time will surprise many from a shooting stand point this year.

How is water's compared to past LSU point guards? Was he really any good in high school? What's the scoop on him
