I am surprised how bad of a coach trent was!

I really haven't been impressed with Hammink. He's got confidence but he's slow off the ball. And hasn't show much of a jump shot. Otherwise I agree. I like a lot of our team. Collins will be good once he gets a lot confidence.

Disagree with that part. I think he shoots it well.

The three freshmen have all looked good at some point but they all also go away at times. Malik Morgan looked so good that first exhibition game but has had trouble hitting the three consistently. I remember several air balls from him. He is great on the boards however.
Hammink has looked so smooth at times and then clumsy others. Needs to wait more for his shot and not try to force it. When he sets up and takes his time he can definitely knock down 3's.
Corban Collins tries to take it to the basket too much. When he succeeded it looked great but too many times it has been awkward and unsuccessful. Showed a nice three stroke last game when he is open. Looks slow in comparison to Hickey but then who wouldn't?

Tuba is a Senior, not sure if he will be back next year and also add Center John Odoh to that list. Also, what is the scoop on Deng Deng? He committed in September but i have heard he most likely will not be here next season.

Yeah Odo will help.
ADP is a senior. LSU is fighting for another year of eligibility for him but are doubtful it will happen.
Deng Deng is on hold. Needs to work on his academics and probably his game too. LSU is in the final 4 for a 5 star recruit that may take Deng Deng's scholarship anyway.

It will be much better next season I believe. But honestly if Trent were coaching we would've easily lost to SH, NWST, and probably last night too.
I'm as excited as anyone else about the direction of the basketball program, but people railing on Trent Johnson sure are quick to forget that win against #10 Marquette last year, a game LSU had no business being in.
There were a few bad losses too, especially that South Alabama game. But last year's team played a much tougher OOC schedule than this year and didn't do half bad.

Yeah but that was Trent's year to show his true identity. Everyone used the excuse of "give him 2 more years" and all that shite. And face it, Trent was an average recruiter and his style of play was a terrible fit in the SEC. That LSU team last year coached better could've easily made the NCAA tourney IMO. Think about what CJJ would be doing with Storm, Ralston Turner, Hamilton, Hickey, Stringer, white, and JOB3. I don't think you understand how terrible it is when our players couldn't complete an inbounds play, would get called for a 5 seconds, and all after a full timeout. and also another time where we nearly lost to MSSU because Turner just tossed it onto the court. Yes Trent pissed me off that much

Outside of Warren, none of the guys on that list would fit in well with Jones up-tempo style. Turner was essentially a spot up shooter. Hamilton is much more suited for half court offense. And Malcolm white is just s terrible basketball player with hands of stone. They wouldn't have had the quickness or depth at guard to implement the press we saw against Seton Hall.

All very frustrating, no doubt. Especially after watching it for 4 years. With the current staff we've only seen 6 games, and only 1 of those against a competent opponent. Remember, there was a point last year too where people were talking about the team being ranked and possibly making he tournament, leading up to the Virginia game. And, especially compared to this year's team that hasn't even been on the road yet, that team was MUCH more battle tested.
I'll also point out that as bad of a recruiter as Johnson was, the two best players on this year's team, O'Bryant and Hickey, were his recruits. The 3rd best, Coleman, was likely coming here even if Johnson was the coach. You could make a good argument either way for Stringer, another Trent recruit, being the 4th best with Carmouche. And he signed Morgan before he left. So it's not like Jones was left with nothing to work with.
I guess there's 2 main points I'm trying to make. 1. As frustrating as it became watching Trent's teams, there were still a lot of good things he did, even last year. 2. As easy as it is to get excited about LSU Basketball both this year and going forward, this ten has only played 6 games, including only 1 respectable team and 0 on the road. Last year should be all the example people need to temper expectations.

Agreed 100% though you meant Stringer, not Hickey, late in your 2nd paragraph.

I wouldn't say Del Piero is getting "a lot" of minutes. He's just basically an extra energy when he's in the game for 10 maybe up to 15 minutes (it's a lot more minutes than anyone expected out of him, quality minutes).
We basically can play 9 guys as much as we want and then Del Piero is a nice spark when needed, also a mismatch for a short bit. Courtnet and Ludwig have turned into walk ons basically.

I think people forget that last season we were very much on the bubble. On Thursday, February 23rd LSU looked like they would make the tournament. They had just won 5 out of 6 (including wins against Miss St and Alabama) and it looked like they would make the tourney.
Then they went on to lose their last 3 and blow their NCAA tourney hopes.

This kinda sums up the TJ era imo. Could see the light, but we'd end up heading away from it.
